Re: My Underbite Ceramic Braces Only Story

WOW! I have an underbite/open bite, but I have to get major crazy wires to bring it forward and close the bite. How did they do yours?! (sorry I'm sure it says it on the blog, but it's blocked on my work computer)

Re: Day three, braces at work...

I used to be annoyed when people brushed their teeth at work so I wasn't super excited to be "that girl" in the office, but I've been amazed at how many people have said "oh gosh, you're so good, I keep telling myself I need to brush after lunch." and I can tell them that if they'd like motivation t...

had a "Kim" wire with your elastics?

I tried to search for this term, but it was a bit tough with the people named Kim:) I have this wire on the bottom right now and just did the molds for the top one. Yowch! It has been the most painful part of braces (besides bone plate surgery) to date, they feel like razor blade hooks! I can handle...

Re: Whats so bad about headgear? (girl afraid to get TADs/OB

Well less than 5 months later and apparently they're done with the bone plates (?!) I'm dreading having them taken out, only because of recovery time and bone healing time (residual arthritic type pain), ugh. But I suppose better that they worked quickly! I kind of want to ask if he really needed th...

Re: Elastics Questions...

Since elastics use the power of your jaw to move things around in different directions, movement can happen quickly. The downside is that it's a very tricky (and loose) science. Since they're so powerful teetch can move more quickly in a direction the ortho may not have anticipated, so most of the t...

Re: Foods you try to get away with having braces...

I've kinda been saddened by a lot of healthy foods becoming harder or annoying to eat (spinach/kale, whole apples, carrots). I used to snack on a lot of healthy stuff, but soft foods generally aren't super healthy. Oh well!! nothing is really off limits to me except whole apples and carrots. I avoid...

Re: orotho appointment from hell

yeah, I cried for the first time at my appointment 5 weeks ago. it was the first time i'd ever said "ow" out loud and told him he might have to stop. I was so embarassed  not that I should've been, I just usually deal with the pain!

Re: Insurance help???

yes I suppose you've sort of missed the boat on regular insurance. Look into an pre-tax FSA (full balance available immediately at the beginning of the year, will lose the money if not spent in that year) or pre-tax HSA (must build up balance with each paycheck or catch-up contribution if allowed, f...

Re: ceramic braces

Avoid highly coloured foods, especially orangey ones like curry, doritos, pasta sauces etc. Basically anything that would cause a nasty stain on clothing you can be pretty sure will stain your ligs. Don't worry about people seeing your braces. I find they look 100 times worse and more obvious on pe...

Re: Protein supplements

I'm very anti synthetic protein, especially a lot of the myoplex ever since they had thos issues with trace amounts of toxins in them (lead, melamine, ew!!). A lot of it doesnt dissolve well and isn't easily absorbed especially if you have any dairy sensetivity. i'd suggest something that has branch...
