Thanks for the words of wisdom, everybody! I was worried that I was being a pansy and that's why my front teeth weren't adjusting. I guess I'll just have to learn to bite with my back teeth...the way I did eleventeen years ago when I lost my two front baby teeth haha.

Advice for biting

After all these years, I need help getting a bite haha. I know that chewing is a good way to get your teeth back to normal, but I'm seeming to lag behind in my front teeth and I still can't bite into my food. Is it just something I need to let time handle or should I be doing something to speed up t...

Well, that's definitely something for me to hope for, then. I'd say much of it depends on the person, their particular problem and about a million other factors. For example, many people have problems with the mouth sores and I haven't had the first one. I don't know why, other than I'm just less se...

Yeah, I'm pretty positive that by the time my little boy would be old enough for braces (I would think at least 10-12 years from now), some advancements will have been made. But I don't see how they could ever be made pain-free just because of the nature of what they do. I hate to see him in pain an...

Instead of being mad at yourself, why not try to give yourself a break and be proud that you *have* taken steps in the right direction and sought treatment. Nothing can change the past, but that doesn't mean everything is out of your control. It sounds like you've got a good option in front of you a...

Ack, that's gotta suck. I'm not hip to all the gear and what it is, so I really don't know what you're talking about haha...but my sympathies are with you. I've been in braces for a week, now, and if you're already eating chicken, then you're ahead of where I was the day after bracing. So, maybe thi...

HA! I'm following you around today. Well, my ortho recommended this due to the lack of space in my mouth. I actually didn't even question it and just went along with it. I will tell you this...it didn't feel very good at all. He told me that it was necessary in order to create enough space to shift ...

Ouch! I wish I didn't know exactly what that feels like! lol Yeah, my little one will be three in a month. In his defense, he was actually asleep when he kicked me and had no idea what he was doing...but that doesn't make you any less infuriated when it happens lol. But he's the type that likes to c...

Sandra, if it makes you feel any more at ease, the rubbing of the braces against my cheeks really hasn't been that bad. I truly think it's because I drink lots and lots of water. I went on a diet a few months ago to get ready for vacation and that got me into the habit of drinking basically only wat...

Well, my day is better already. For one thing, my computer freaked out on me last night and I thought that last big update post didn't go through. I was coming here to redo it only to find that I don't have to! YAY! Plus, the encouragment that I get here is great! I tried to make myself feel better ...

I'm adjusting pretty quickly to the braces and my bite it improving already. I can actually close my mouth even though that pain in the hind end molar is st...

Oh, I would definitely agree that my dental hygiene has greatly improved since I've become so concerned about my braces and any damage I may do to my teeth while I have them. I had two wisdom teeth taken out about 6 years ago (I'm one of the lucky folks who only had two...no bottom wisdom teeth). I was anestaetitized for my procedure, so that itself was no sweat :). I did have killer headaches for the week following, though, which I used my painkillers they had prescribe...

I have ceramic uppers and metal lowers, and I don't change my brushing style from one to the other. My DA went over brushing procedures with me and never mentioned that I should be extra careful over the ceramics or anything. It is recommended that you use soft bristled toothbrushes. I go back and f...
