chefy, the guy with the knife, was my catalyst. I've been up to chef's school and the whole place, students and faculty alike, are armed with knives! I wasn't going to argue with that man.

I brush, I have two different sized proxibrushes-one for between wire and teeth, and one for between teeth. There are all kinds of gizmos sold for quick teeth cleaning. I use the public restroom if need be. They're my teeth!

Big napkins help hide swishing up to a point.

My fave HS teacher is on the board. Look for posts from HeyTeach. If I remember right, he said it has been a total non-issue. And 30 is nothing, almost there myself, with at least a year of metalmouthdom to go.

I'm sure that for some cases veneers are a good thing. But to ruin healthy teeth for a quick fix is insane. Also, veneers are not cheaper than orthodontics nor do they last a lifetime and will need to be redone. Most orthodontics is more or less good for the duration if one follows good retention pr...

sounds familiar If in doubt get second opinions from another ortho. And yes, check with a perio too. Tooth loss can come from gums that don't get proper stimulation etc from the way way the teeth mesh etc. As far as social etc and being a foodie, it is less traumatic than you imagine. Lots of men an...

Fish pie is a classic Brit dish...so good! Chef, my partner, first lays down a bed of sauteed spinach, (a natural with the nutmeg!) and nice and messy with braces.

Any long/slow cooked stew has very tender meat and veg and is great for braces and teeth that "don't meet right for the time being."

I'm in health care and at first no one said much. When I got headgear I got lots of sympathy both at work and at the gym. Some of my clients ask questions but that's about it. My partner, chef, also got braces, and got a lot of incredulous reaction from his co-workers who couldn't understand why som...

I chew gum (sugarless) with no problem. Keeps the blood flowing through the gums and actually lessens soreness. I've got elastics and headgear and have had no problems. Salads and greens like spinach which I love are messy but edible. Nuts such as peanuts cashews and pecans are ok, but the harder al...

Sometimes they will help a reluctant tooth to come in by cutting a "window" and attaching a wire to it with an elastic. Very effective procedure. Also remember your braces are shaping jaw growth. Teen orthodontic wear if often longer than adults for that very reason.

Not having a really big sweet tooth, the gooey candies etc don't tempt me. Cutting food off bones etc is a norm for me for the next year or so. Don't mind cutting sandwiches either. Crusty bread gets dunked in soup or sauce. What I miss because it just doesn't feel or taste right: apples (I need to ...
