Hi jjs34748, Welcome to AW!!! I just finished my second active treatment after wearing braces in my teens and then did it all over again 3 months shy of my 40th birthday. Now I'm getting ready to start active treatment with my 12 year old son ( he's been on watch for the last 18 months - just 2 more...

I've been headbutted by my kids while I was in braces and had my share of nasty cuts and holes in my mouth. I would get peroxyl and rinse well with it as well as rincinol ( that works wonders) and place wax on all brackets that may be rubbing in your mouth.

Feel better and Happy Thanksgiving!

Maybe the wire is to long and needs to be clipped. I had to get one of my wires clipped 4 days after I got my braces on.

Hi Trish, Congratulations!!! Wow you're a trooper to try salad on your first day! I ate sushi the second day and it was horrible! I had to cut it, ugh! As far as floss goes, don't waste your time with the threaders, they stink!!! I found that glide worked really well for me and I'm still using it si...

Trish, Good luck tomorrow!!!Here are my few words of advice for you... Make sure that you eat a good breakfast, take some ibuprofen(I took 800mg) an hour before your appointment and just be calm when you walk into the office tomorrow morning. I was a bundle of nerves as I was driving to my banding a...

I used to get my powerchains changed inbetween my 4 week visiting because I was wearing ceramic braces on top with clear chains and couldn't stand when they were really stained. I'm a coffee drinker...

Otherwise I waited until my normal appointment when I wasn't wear clear ligs or chains.

Trish, Braces are a piece of cake compared to childbirth. If you can handle the TMJ pain, this will be a walk in the park! Don't get me wrong, I had a couple of days of discomfort after an adjustment, but nothing an 800mg motrin or a stiff drink can't cure! Your kids are at a great age, I loved when...

Hi Trish, My ortho wouldn't guarantee that the TMJ would be gone, but I would have much better function in the end. I also spoke with my dentist about it and he thought that I had nothing to loose by going ahead with treatment. I'd have better esthetics and improved function. Just go for it, I was a...

Trish, People said the same thing to me as far as my teeth go. I guess no one takes into account the bite. It's critical... I would rather be in braces and sort things out than grounding my teeth down and having other issues. I found the second time to be so much easier. I had no bands this time aro...

Hi Trish, Thanks for visiting!!! As a matter of fact, my son turns 12 today and my girls are 4.5 years younger, they'll be 8 at the end of March. My TMJ is better, but acts up here and there. I have to tell you that my function is so much better! I did have some relaspe, but I also had a car acciden...

I agree with haywire, call your ortho and get it clipped. I had to get mine clipped 4 days after my braces were put on. If you can't get in before the weekend, put wax on those sharp areas to get some relief!
