I go to a rather small office - 1 ortho, 2 assistants and 2 office staff. With the exception of the power chain changes that I have been getting every 2 weeks lately my ortho looks things over at each visit. He also placed all my brackets. At each adjustment the assistant removes the ligatures and w...

"A" - The family dentist told my parents that my older sister and I both needed braces. My parents took my sister to see an orthodontist, found out what it cost and determined that there was no way they could afford it. So neither of us got them. Fast forward 23 years and I am one year into treatmen...

The expander I am now using is really making my uppers come down. It has acrylic over the molars. So, when its in, my fronts cannot touch. I guess its a lot like the bite turbos or molar buildups that other folks have except I am fortunate in that I can take mine out to eat. :D Good luck in reaching...

Time for another adjustment update. I went into yesterday's appointment ready to insist that he do the IPR or pull a tooth or two; anything to get things moving again. Yes, I am impatient. :? Dr. W is such a low-key, mellow kind of guy. He listened patiently to my concerns then just smiled and said,...

I am fully braced (uppers and lowers) and I have a removable expander. There are plusses and minuses to the removable expanders. On the downside they are a little bulkier; which combined the the ability to take them out can mean a longer time to get used to them. On the upsdie, you can take them out...

I am about 2 months into my second removable expander. I had the first one for 6 months. The first one did a great job. This one is going much slower and it seems too soon to see any change. Don't hesitate to let your ortho know that it is not fitting properly. Not only can an ill-fitting expander b...

I saw an ad on TV last night for a new ACT that kills germs without alcohol, has flouride and claims to strengthen and even restore enamel. I believe its called ACT Restore or ACT Renew (re-something). I don't know much about restoring enamel; nor do I care much about it at this point. But, I have b...

+1 on the keeping your mouth (and body) hydrated. The elastics can wreak some havoc on a dry mouth.

I'm always searching for a really great toothbrush. I'll have to give that one a try. I use the Crest Pro Health mouthwash. Many people have complained about the little blue (or green) bits it tends to leave behind, but its never been a big deal to me. The Crest taste good, kills germs and does not ...

Karen and I are Class III pals (upper molars to lower canines). I've had mine for a few months now. They were a moderate irritation at first, but now my mouth feels loose without them. Really not a big deal after the first week or so. They are doing a great job. I get impatient, but they are definit...

I have to concur w/ Meryaten. The better I brush and the more consistently I use the Pro Health the less gunk I get. I find that when I do get some gunk on my braces I can wet my toothbrush and go over the gunky areas lightly and the brush with collect the gunk. I definitely get less burn with the P...

The only time I found that my Schwartz bothered the roof of my mouth was when we were expanding it too quickly. As it opens up its able to bend more along the centerline. Mine would bend upward in the center digging into my palate. It was pretty uncomfortable so my ortho had me change from turning t...

I have no bands... yet. The brackets seem to do just fine on porcelain crowns (I have 2), but they don't seem to do quite as well on gold crowns. My last bracket on the upper left is on a gold crown. It was fine when I just had braces, but since adding elastics the bracket on the gold crown has popp...

I wouldn't worry too much about taking yourself out of the dating game. Here are a few reasons why: 1) You obviously need to address the issues you mentioned. Treatment won't get an easier if you wait, but the issues sound like they may get worse if you wait. 2) Any woman who has an issue with a man...
