I currently have my second removable expander (Schwartz Appliance). I recall the first 24-48 hours with my first expander being fairly painful. In fact, I seem to recall telling my wife that it felt like my skull was being split in half from the inside. Since that time, I have had very little pain. ...

Gee, after reading all the names and animals I was feeling very left out. Nice to know there are others who don't get the cleverly-named elastics. I have 5/16", aka: "Blues" for the blue on the bag. Anyone else find that the elastics are not real consistent in thickness? I find some that are practic...

It must be an orthodontists preference. I have never had the same archwire re-used. Even when I have had the same size wire, they have replaced it with a new wire.

Not sure if it makes any difference, though.

You know what's funny about those first few times you see yourself with braces? Before long I forgot what I looked like without them. They quickly became part of me and when I look in the mirror I see the progress, but I don't pay much attention to the actual braces. Congrats on taking a big step an...

Interesting. An expander that you don't turn? My best guess would be something like a Quad-Helix or TPA. Do you know if he is going for more expansion or just hoping to maintain the expansion that you have achieved already? If there is no screw/key and it is a TPA or Quad Helix they are generally mu...

GabeMc - I too work Inside Sales and I spend plenty of time on the phone each day. My tops and bottoms went on about 2 months apart and I scheduled them both for the late afternoon. I only missed an hour or two of work each time. In both cases it was not a big deal and I could have gone back to work...

That is really cool. Let us know what your ortho says about it.

Ultradent's HQ is just around the corner from my office and the PR Manager listed on the website and I worked together at another company. Small world.

My dentist and orthodontist are in the same office. So, my hygenist has one of the ortho's assistants come over and "take me apart" before the exam and cleaning. Then she come back and puts me back together again.

Time for another adjustment update. A pretty exciting one, too! I went in expecting to hear the usual, "Things are moving nicely. Same size wires. Same powerchain. Same elastics. See you in a few weeks." To my surprise Dr W asked his assistant to get him an "interproximal strip". I didn't understand...

It sounds like this is something you truly want to do. If so - jump in with both feet! Discomfort - it varries from person to person and is affected largely by treatment options. Usually it amounts to a day or two after an adjustment. Then its back to normal for a few weeks until the next adjustment...

Proof that braces really are not a big deal

They may be a very big deal to us, but here's some proof that to the rest of the world they are not an issue. Our company has our big North American users group coming up in October and decided to do three promotional videos to be posted on the company website for all customers and potential custome...
