Wel, the only thing you can really do is wear your retainer! Otherwise, yes, your teeth will shift. They take a while to settle after you get your braces off, so you that's why you need to wear a retainer. And the best way to deal with the speech issue is to wear your retainer, so that you get used ...

Good for you for getting another consultation - it's not right for your ortho to just give up like that. I had jaw surgery, and yes it is an ordeal but it is not "crazy", and I only had my jaw wired shut for 10 days, not six weeks. But, there may be other ways that you can address the underbite with...

How long is he gong to be wired shut? Zip-n-Squeeze recommends using a new bag every couple of days. You could probably get away with using them a bit longer, though, as long as you wash them really well. Zip-N-Squeeze also sells a cookbook, which is really helpful if you have never had to make pure...

I have heard of it being done as an outpatient procedure, especially in th case of patients who don't have insurance. I would say, if it is going to save you whole bunch of money, go for it. Obviously you will need to have someone keeping watch over you continuously when you get home, for at least 2...

This is just my two cents, but I don't think you need to be terribly worried about weight loss. If you lose any weight, trust me, it comes back very quick. Your body is amazing at sorting things out for itself. If you think you need supplememts, go ahead, but I don't think its really necessary. You ...

I am not an expert in these things - I am only speaking from my own experience. But in my case, the ortho and surgeon did work in cooperation. They had at least two meetings concerning my case, where they looked at models and such. But it was the surgeon who ultimately decided where and what to cut ...

It does sound like she had her upper jaw moved too far forwards. Did she have here lower jaw moved much at all? When correcting an underbite, obviously, you can either move the upper jaw forwards, lower jaw back, or some combination of the two. It is up to the surgeon to determne the appropriate mov...

I think its a great idea to get in shape, etc. I think that the healthier you are, the easier your recovery will be. Why is it that you need to be wired shut for eight weeks? That is quite a long time. It is likely that you will lose at least a little bit of weight, but you can minimize that by eati...

Hi there, As far as I know, it's ok to brush. At least, it was for me when I had surgery. Just be careful not to poke your stiches with the toothbrush. I am not sure about the Listerine - because it contains alcohol, it might hurt if it gets in your incisions. Are you able to call your surgeon's off...

Chicago29's advice is great. Personally, I don't think it is really necesary to gain weight. I would just carry on with your normal day-to-day routine. If you do lose any weight after surgery, you'll put it back on soon enough because once you're back on regular food you'll want to eat all the time!...

Are you in Canada or USA? I am Canadian and I was charged the "work-up fee" as well. I think this is pretty standard in Canada, but I don't know how it works in the US. Good luck sorting it out!

I don't know if it's possible for a retainer to "rust" a tooth... at least I have never heard of such a thing. I have had brown stains appear on my teeth that are not cavities, just de-mineralization. Maybe it could be that?

Definitely see a periodontist, even if you don't end up getting the ortho treatment. You want your teeth as healthy as possible! Also, maybe a gum graft would be an option for your lower teeth? I had all my wisdom teeth out as well, in fact, my ortho was so keen on pulling teeth I had them out at ag...

What is the cause of the bone loss? Your previous ortho work, or periodontal disease? Had any of the other orthos noted the bone loss at all? They must have seen x-rays at some point. If it is really as severe as this ortho says, then I suppose you had better not get ortho treatment, lest you lose y...
