After a while you get the knack of eating without any food coming into contact with your front teeth.

That can happen quite easily with the thin wires used early in treatment. You might be able to get it back yourself using a pair of tweezers, but if you can't, your ortho can pop it back in easily without removing it. You could ask him to bend the ends of the wire inwards, which should stop it poppi...

You might start to see changes within a few weeks, but closing gaps often isn't done till later in the treatment. So it might be a while before that gap closes.

You could try wax, but I think it was the member chillin-in-grilz who came up with the novel plan of using plastic drinking straws to cover long lengths of exposed archwire. If you get some of those skinny plastic straws and cut a piece the right length, and then slit it vertically, you should be ab...

I've had a couple of cleanings since getting braces with the wires in place. The hygienist was able to do a fairly good job. But I'm planning to ask my ortho if it would be possible to have at least my bottom wire out for my next cleaning though. My bottom braces have been on 2 years now and there's...

Most definitely. I started out with a wonky-looking but perfectly functional class II bite, but for the last year I have had no occlusion at all. The only teeth touching are top and bottom premolars on one side! Things do often have to get worse before they get better, and the middle phase, where te...

I've had power chains for months on end, and my ortho only does clear, so I've been relying on the ones I bought myself. I only have black, purple, neon pink and neon green, and the pink and green both fade badly, so I seem to be going for black all the time right now :?

Never heard that one. I always use warm water as cold water makes my teeth jump too much, and I haven't got white teeth :?

I've had power chains for almost 2 years! As well as closing gaps they can also be used to hold a bunch of teeth together while pulling another one round, or to stop gaps from opening up in the first place.

ArchAngle, what's with the insults? Karen had a lot of very valid questions and looking into the various options available, rather than accepting what any old ortho says and going blindly uninformed into treatment, is definitely not a waste of time. If it means she ends up better informed than the m...

My guess would be a blood clot too. When I had my wisdoms out, I couldn't open my mouth enough to see, but I could feel jelly kind of stuff in there. Don't pull it out. Just rinse very gently with a weak salt water solution two or 3 times a day. You might still get some swelling yet, so don't panic ...

It's the acid in the reflux that can cause soft spots rellsmom, same as bulimic people losing their tooth enamel from being sick all the time. :?
