Re: Let's get real -- How important is flossing with braces?

I can’t NOT floss! I can literally feel the difference in my mouth between going to bed having flossed vs. not having flossed. The bacteria has a buffet to feast on between your teeth if if you don’t floss/waterpik - so without flossing my mouth tastes worse and has more plaque built up when I wake...

Re: Sore gum around 1 tooth after adjustment?

I am just keeping this thread updated in case another person has a similar situation. I never did call my ortho. I was out of town last week, so there was nothing I could have done if something needed to be done, and I felt giving it a couple days to see if it subsided would be fine. However, a frie...

Range of archwire sizes?

Out of curiosity, I was wondering if anyone knows what the range of archwire sizes is for niti and stainless steel? I’m currently in 18x25 on top and at my appointment last week she said that is one of the thickest they have. How many more are above that? I’m fairly certain this is still a niti wire...

Sore gum around 1 tooth after adjustment?

Forever panicking about the unknown lol. I had my adjustment today and 1 bottom front tooth is still slightly rotated and the hygeniest had a somewhat hard time getting the wire in the bracket. She had to apply a lot of pressure to then get the steel tie on. It was petty painful. The pain lingers on...

Re: Braces story - 28 years old

6th adjustment! :jump: I am now in my 9th month of treatment, and this was my 6th adjustment. My bottom wire stayed the same (16x22 niti). The only change on the bottom was some new steel ties - super ouch. As for the upper, the wire was changed to an 18x25 niti. I also got a "light" power chain to ...

Re: Braces story - 28 years old

Hi! Thanks for the replies! I think I will give regular silver a try if my ortho says he wants a power chain on. I was hoping to have it just blend in with the silver. I haven't been bold enough to put colours on my top teeth as of yet. My appointment is in a couple days (Wednesday morning), so I am...

Re: Braces story - 28 years old

Well, I’ve been in this 16x22 wire for nearly a month. It must be doing a good job. I think that was the most pain I’ve ever had after an adjustment. I couldn’t eat for about 3 days. My teeth are not as tipped in, so my molar build ups touch again rather then my premolars hitting first. I’ve also go...

Re: Elastics in bite correction

I didn’t have any extractions done. I have already had elastics for a little less than half my 7 months I’ve been in braces, and I was told I would be in elastics about 90% of the time to correct my bite. No gaps to close here.

Re: Adjustment followed by Cleaning

Hi! I have a similar situation. My dentist also provides ortho, but I went with a different orthodontist. They have never asked to take my wire off for cleaning. They just clean around it. I think I wouldn’t be comfortable with him taking the wire off. I’d say ask your actual ortho if that is common...

Re: Let's get real -- How important is flossing with braces?

Hi all! I get braces next week, and this thread makes me feel like a waterpik is a must! Any specific models recommended? Overall I’m trying to prep for next week and have supplies at home. I already bought dental wax! My ortho’s website suggests: 1. Electric toothbrush with ortho head - I have Ora...

Re: Electric vs Manual brishes

I've used an Oral-B electric since I can remember, so when I got my braces I just continued using it. My ortho actually gave one to me at the start of treatment. I had a better version, so I gave the free one to my husband :-* I use the electric to brush morning and night, but I use a manual in betw...

Re: Braces story - 28 years old

Congrats on the fast movement...they really do look fantastic. Hopefully you'll be finished long before the quoted 16 months. Are you still wearing these dang elastics? I was given a new configuration that requires 3 of these...yikes! All the Best, Jethro Thanks Jethro! I am hoping to be done soone...

do you guys bring up every new negative changes to your ortho at every appointment? No I don’t. I will bring something up if it’s actually bugging me, but otherwise I just kind of let the process unfold. For example my top front tooth was starting to hit a lower bracket randomly, so I mentioned tha...

Re: Braces story - 28 years old

Here are my update progress pictures from the first day I got braces until today. My front teeth have definitely straightened out quite a bit, and I notice a decrease in the slight over jet I had. In the first photo you can see that my top teeth kind of sat on my lips when I smiled. They don't do th...

Re: Why did the hygienist smooth off an elastic hook?!

Right??? I was literally dumbfounded when I saw that it was gone. You’re right. I will bring it up at my next adjustment, so he can either deal with it then or wait until I need an elastic there again. I know I’ll be wearing a lot more elastics in my time braced, so I just couldn’t believe that.
