Re: Am I a candidate for lower jaw surgery?

Is your overbite causing you any functional issues? Your x-ray looks a lot like mine pre-surgery. Yes, there is an overbite, but you have a nice face structure that camouflages it so it isn't too noticeable. Personally I regret my surgery, the risks outweighed the marginal benefit of having a better...

Re: Oral Surgeon in Toronto, Ontario

I know there is a girl on youtube named "Tierra Incognito" who had surgery with Dr. C and documented her recovery. I love her aesthetic results and it appears she escaped with only a little nerve damage which doesn't affect her quality of life. I would get a consult with Dr. C regardless. I had my s...

Re: Unbearable tightness in chin

aww thank you. Im a year and 5 months out, I can't believe I have this many problems still. Im just really scared this tension is being caused by nerve damage and there is nothing I can do. Also, there has been no benefit to the surgery in my case. I would have been 100% better without it. The only ...

Re: Unbearable tightness in chin

Hi Thank you. I read outloud and try to sing all the time. It doesn't help at all. It just feels tighter and tighter and begins to physically hurt. Any movement of the lip hurts. I honestly have no idea where to go from here. I have 0 quality of life. I would rather move to a new city and just tell ...

Re: Unbearable tightness in chin

Hi Kayla, Thanks. I actually saw a PT. Granted he was super young so I'm not sure how experienced he was, but he didn't think PT could help. Again, its not stiff muscles around my TMJ joints, I can actually open very wide (4 fingers). Its localized stiffness in my chin and lip that gets stiffer as I...

Re: Unbearable tightness in chin

Thank you. Ive already asked my surgeon about kenalog and he refused for some reason. I really need to address this issue of what happens when I talk (the stiffness is getting unbearable) but its really hard to find accounts where hardware removal really did improve the issue. I only had my lower ja...

Re: Unbearable tightness in chin

Hi Cloudy Angel,

Thank you so much for your reply.

Would you say the chin hardware removal was worth it then? Did you have the lip tightness before or did it start after the hardware removal?
Im really scared of making this worse :(

Do you know what steroid your surgeon used?

Thank you

Re: Unbearable tightness in chin

Thanks, I am doing exercises but opening is not my issue. I can open my mouth very wide. Its localized tightness/stiffness in my lower lip and chi that builds up when I speak making it extremely uncomfortable.

Hardware Removal

Is there anyone who had there hardware removed for reasons other than infection? What issues did you have that warranted the removal and was the removal successful in addressing said issues? I'm particularly interested in those who have had their chin hardware removed. Many thanks.

Re: Unbearable tightness in chin

Hi Cloudy Angel, Can you please update once and if you have had the hardware removal surgery? Unfortunately this issue very much still remains for me (I still experience extreme pain and discomfort when I move my lower lip to talk/chew.) I am very depressed and cannot imagine a happy future should t...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies

@nozzelnut thanks for the reply. I do the same thing, pull/message...it works for about 2 seconds and then gets tight again. I've heard other people complain of tightness but mine is literally unbearable. I can't read half a page of a book without stopping because the whole area feels like its immov...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies

ok thanks, I have tightness too but I think mine is super extreme....like the entire area gets so stiff that its enough to make me stop talking, especially since I feel it on my lower lip and it feels like it pulls/gets squished together. Idk its super hard to explain, but its super uncomfortable.

Re: Orthognathic surgery in Toronto

Decided to search my surgeons name to see if anything popped up and this thread popped up. I had my surgery with Dr. Armstrong over a year ago at University Hospital. I had the exact same first impression of Dr. Armstrong (very arrogant and did not explain things), but I trusted my orthodontist's re...

Re: altered sensation

Thanks Emily. I had surgery a few weeks after that date, so I'm approaching one year in a few months. I don't mind feeling numb, I just hate the stiff/tight feeling I can feel in my chin and lower lip when I speak. I really really hope this resolves. The tightness started 3 months after my surgery.
