Re: Teeth mobility, ortho wants to deband :(

Hi all, I’m new here but have used this valuable forum as my go-to for a while now. I’ve been braced on the lowers for 2 years, uppers for 1.5 years, 4 second premolar exo’s (no regrets AT ALL since I have very thin gingival tissue and already have recession on the lower anteriors due to flaring du...

Re: Teeth mobility, ortho wants to deband :(

Unfortunately, I can’t answer your question, but if you don’t mind I wanted to ask if you were advised extractions specifically because of your gum thinness? I also have thin gums. I had 2 consults - 1 advised for extractions and 1 was against extractions. I decided not to get the extractions. The ...

Re: Mild expansion possible?

I think some small widening is possible. My ortho widened my arch a little just with archwires. It was not really very noticeable just looking at the mirror, but comparing my before and after photos, I can see that there is indeed some widening. I'd say discuss with your ortho and see what he or she...

Re: Most painful adjustment 1 year into treatment

I had a similar experience. I am 22 months into my projected 18 months treatment. We are currently working on some minor alignment issues with a couple of teeth which sound pretty harmless. But at my last appointment, even though my ortho was only working on adjusting my 2 front teeth, my entire top...

Re: Metal or Ceramic?

I have full metal. No regrets. No one cares or even noticed I had them. Also, the ceramic ones are a little bulkier in profile, so that's something to take into consideration as well. I had a coworker who had ceramics for the top and metal for the bottom. She told me if she had to do it again, she w...

Re: Can glue on brackets become weakened?

I usually go back and get it reguled in a couple of days or within the week. Depending on which bracket is loose, it could potentially stall your progress if you wait for several weeks until your next appointment to get it sorted out.

Re: Nearly 2 years into braces and Ortho says I need two teeth removed plus jaw surgery to fix overbite?

I'm sorry this is happening to you. There are indeed some situations where braces alone will not fully correct the bite, and that surgery is needed. But that said, if this was the case for you, your ortho should have presented the options to you before the start of your treatment and not when you ar...

Re: Treatment asymmetrical arch?

The wires will help to round the arch. It doesn't matter if you got molar bands or just brackets.

Re: How do I know if my potential orthodontist is good / bad?

Not sure about the UK. But I think you can just search up your local dental council, (basically the board that governs and the dentists registers with) and check if a dentist is registered as a specialist in orthodontics.

Re: The truth about extractions. Share your Good and Bad stories? [with pictures]

While I agree that some cases cannot be solved acceptably without extractions (ie, bimax protrusion, severe overjets), I do believe that in most cases extractions are done just to make things easier/more predictable (for the ortho, that is). I also wish I had done my homework before being pushed in...

Re: Elastic loop come of braces

I usually put the loop back on myself. I use an interdental brush to help me with it. That said, I don't think having it off a bracket or 2 would make much difference in 2 weeks.

Re: Whitening your teeth BEFORE braces?

I did that. I didn't think it made much difference. After about 20 months into treatment, my teeth does look kinda yellow, and it's making me worried about finding white squares upon debracing.

Re: Second time around, just 8 months after first...

When you said you don't want a "flat" smile, are you saying you want to end with some kind of an overbite? Actually, if you are happy with your teeth in their crooked positions and vertical proportions, and also don't want your molars moved, is it not possible to make more space of the extracted pre...

Re: Second time around, just 8 months after first...

Have you tried drawing? Or taking photos and notating which teeth/how you want/do not want them to move? This was what I did with my ortho when he could not see what I was talking about. I ultimately took pictures of my actual teeth and compared it side by side with my moulds and added arrows, dots ...

Re: Next appointment is to make impressions...

Fingers crossed that things stabilises for you! I had my debrace schedule pushed back for a couple of months because I was not happy with how my molars are lining or rather not lining up. When my ortho made the necessary adjustments, other teeth that were straight become misaligned again within 24 h...
