Re: 60 and braced

Congratulations, Gia, and I hope your journey isn't too difficult! I for one have not lost weight in braces as I've always found a way to eat. And ice cream is always easy, even in the worst pain...lol. :-*

Re: Almost done- opinions on teeth - pics

Wow, your bite and upper arch look pretty much identical to mine. I am also near the end, getting them off at the latter part of the month. My left central incisor up top is still a little rotated, and ortho has done all kinds of stuff, from bends in the wire to wire ties, to repositioning the brack...

Re: Braces after Jaw Fracture at Age 56!

Latest adjustment yesterday -- I think this is the fourth Monday in a row I have been to the ortho! He looked at my top arch briefly, and I got a new heavier wire with a couple of bends; still in an attempt to finish the final rotation on my stubborn left central incisor. Honestly, I don't think tha...

Re: 24 months no end in sight???

I feel for you, and I have the same issues with my ortho -- he is a man of very few words and rarely tells me anything. He'll say a few words to the tech telling her what to do, but not to me. It is frustrating as I am a high-information person. I want to know what he is doing and the plan going for...

Re: Scared to get White Spots...

I wonder if your hygienist is just trying to make sure you don't let up on your oral hygiene by saying that? I have seen many photos of people after debracing on various sites, and I have only once or twice seen anyone who ended up with white spots on their teeth. I have been in braces for 13 months...

Re: First time braces at 33

My bite however is stubborn, because i’m missing some backmolars, i have to attach my elastic to a tooth that is not really suited to do the job. I hear ya. I have been in elastics most of the time since December for my bite. I didn't have jaw surgery but fractured my jaw (both condyles) in a bicyc...

Re: First time braces at 33

Woah...first upper wire change since January!? I haven't counted, but I've probably had at least six upper wire changes since then. Maybe three new wires on the lowers during that same time. Of course, I haven't seen many changes in my upper arch for the past six months, frustratingly, so I am not s...

Re: Braces after Jaw Fracture at Age 56!

Had my latest adjustment today, and barely even saw the ortho. Was a bit disappointed since I am getting so close to the end, and he had been taking a bit more time with me in previous appointments. I noticed and pointed out to him and the tech that both the left central incisor and left lateral inc...

Re: Help Me Choose a Retainer

Hi Gia, glad to hear you have a brace date. Did you decide to go with all-metal traditional braces? I am supposed to get (per my contract) a bonded lower retainer (not thrilled with having to floss around it) and a set of Essix retainers (top and bottom). I will probably stick with what is in my con...

Re: Help Me Choose a Retainer

Interested to know why that is. Can you wear a mouthguard over Hawley retainers at night to prevent grinding? From what I read, Hawley retainers seemed to prevent people from grinding on their own (I guess they keep the teeth separated?), whereas essix encouraged clenching and were destroyed by gri...

Re: Help Me Choose a Retainer

I did some searching around the forums as well, and the general consensus seems to be Hawley if you have issues with bruxism, which I do. So, I may have answered my own question at this point. Interested to know why that is. Can you wear a mouthguard over Hawley retainers at night to prevent ...

Re: Braces after Jaw Fracture at Age 56!

Had another adjustment today, just one week after the last one. In the past week, my rotated left central incisor on top has finally started to fall into line but still has a little way to go. I got a wire change on the top to a lighter wire without bends. Staying with the triangle elastics for my b...

Re: Metal or ceramic?

He sounds like he knows his stuff. It's just interesting to me how much he seems to be pushing Invisalign. My ortho (also board-certified) has signs up in his waiting room for Invisalign, but I have never seen anyone in the waiting room with anything other than ceramic or metal braces, and he didn't...

Re: Metal or ceramic?

Gia, did you ever consult with an orthodontist who specializes in traditional braces instead of Invisalign? Just curious, since it seems like this one is really married to Invisalign, so that makes me wonder if he will do as good a job with traditional braces. If he is a board-certified ortho (I can...
