Re: What toothpaste do you use?

My ortho assistant said no whitening toothpaste, so I shopped for Sensodyne without whitener and plain old fluoride Colgate. I use the Sensodyne 2x a day and the Colgate 1x.

Re: What kind of lip balm do you use?

Mee Beauty "Bee Kissed" -- great natural balm, no petroleum derivatives, and glides on super soft, very reasonably priced. It's the best lip balm, bar none, I've ever used. Available at the big "A" (not putting name in as I think it will be changed to "spam spam spam").

Re: Anything you miss about braces?

Well, my husband says I look a lot younger in them -- I think because they push my lips out a bit and thus plump out my lip wrinkles (I am 56). So I am really going to miss that!

Re: Braces after Jaw Fracture at Age 56!

Day 3: Most of my teeth are much less sore than on Days 1-2, but I woke up with one very sore tooth on top right; it's the one behind the canine, which happens to be where my top braces terminate currently. Popped a Tylenol, and pain diminished considerably for the rest of the day. Am going to use t...

Re: Which Waterpik tip do you use?

I just got a Waterpik and am going to try it tonight for the first time. I am waiting for my order of spam spam spam flossers from Ebay, and in the meantime, the Waterpik will be the best I can do re. flossing. Do you Waterpik users use it with plain water or do you add some mouthwash? I have a non-...

My midline is off as well, so I expect some strange elastic patterns. Fortunately the hooks are on the side teeth and really tiny on the speed brackets, so not a problem for me. Just want to get my bite straightened out!

Re: lipstick with clear braces?

This forum is great. I just discovered that lipstick rubbed off on my brand-new clear brackets on top, did a google search, and found this thread! I can't believe I've made it to age 56 without knowing the finger trick. Wow -- learn something new every day! Will definitely give that a try as well as...

Re: Anyone else in Speed braces?

I looked closely after getting my braces installed yesterday, all but the last four molars which will be done at the next appointment (all four are crowns, so he chose to do them separately). I have the mushroom hooks on all brackets starting from the canines. Not sure what kind of crazy elastic pat...

Re: Braces after Jaw Fracture at Age 56!

Thanks FlyByNight. It has not been the easiest thing I've ever gone through, that's for sure. So, I got my braces put on today...most of them. He decided to wait until next time (three weeks) to put the brackets on my molars, which all have crowns on them. I guess that involves a different typ...

Re: Anyone else in Speed braces?

Self ligating brackets are the damons. I had them off a few months ago. They advertise as less pain, but I guess it depends on the person. Actually (as I just found out), Damon is one brand of self-ligating brackets. My ortho uses a different self-ligating product, Speed System: http://speedsystem....

Braces after Jaw Fracture at Age 56!

Hi All. As the Subject line says, I am getting braces after suffering a jaw fracture (three places) in a bicycle accident in April 2017. I first had closed reduction with jaw wiring by an oral surgeon. The wires were then replaced with heavy elastics on the arch bars, and at last, the arch bars were...

Re: Anyone else in Speed braces?

From what I've observed, self ligating brackets have hooks like standard brackets to enable you to use elastics. Thanks. I found out on another forum that there are brackets used in the Speed System that have what are called "mushroom hooks" to hold elastics. I assume my ortho will install this typ...

Re: Consultation Scheduled!

I agree, Pammy. I knew that I most likely needed braces, but I just wanted to be 100% sure before I paid the large amount out of pocket, as I have no dental insurance. Both the dentist and orthodontist think that braces will help my bite. Straightening out my teeth at the same time will be a nice co...
