Re: Day 1 and I already want to rip them off! Help!

As you can see from all the replies you are not alone. Yes, the first few days can be miserable, but over time you will forget you have them on. As others have said, OTC pain killers work just fine and there are also other things you can do. They make liquid pain killers for mouth sores that help a ...

Re: When will I get my only top ceramic braces? I broke two brackets in different months

I've had my top, ceramic bracket for over a year with no problems, but I'm pretty careful about what I bite into. There is no way we can know when your brackets will be coming off. That's between you and your ortho.

Re: Heartbeat in gums help pls

Very strange. I would talk to your ortho, but I'll bet it has something to do with the fact your braces are so new you're overthinking about your teeth, gums and mouth. Like the rest of us you'll soon get used to them and start worrying about other things. :D

I had a bracket come loose and I swallowed it. Seriously doubt your problem will set you back, but often when something like this happens the office will squeeze you in before your regular appt. I think they always keep openings for emergencies.

Re: Canine got chipped because of bracket!

First, sorry this happened to you. This is a lesson that if you feel something is wrong you have to really communicate with your ortho. We can't assume our ortho can "see" everything when we feel something is wrong. I've complained about all kinds of things during my journey and they've always resol...

Re: Braces and weight loss query

Trust me, you'll figure out how to eat again. And, it's amazing how many calories you can cram into a blender. While I don't need to anymore, I still make smoothies often. I use almond milk, bananas, peanut butter, instant coffee, Oreo Cookies, whatever. I have lost a little weight but mostly becaus...

All sounds normal to me, too. Ibuprofen is your best friend right now and you will get used to all this. If the brackets or wires abrade the inside of your mouth use some dental wax which works great. When I started I also used a special mouthwash by ACT for braces. Really helped a lot.

Re: Do you gag getting brace put on?

I've had no trouble, but my girlfriend has a very sensitive gag reflex. You should see her take a pill. I would inform your ortho of the problem(?) just to make them aware. And yeah, I remember one of those chemicals they used when putting the brackets on really tasted terrible.

Re: Brackets covering entire back teeth?

I may be wrong, but it sounds like you have "bands" holding the brackets to your molars. This is perfectly normal and a common way to attach brackets to molars. Mine are just "glued" on, but my friend who has braces has the bands that go all the way around the tooth. Not sure why they would one over...

I have them, too. You will definitely get used to them and you will figure out how to eat again. Everybody I know who has them hates them, but you do get used to them believe it or not.

Re: Rubber band from hell? Not really

When my ortho added elastics to my treatment it was a real pain. Not only some tooth pain but putting them on was a real chore. The tooth pain has subsided and I finally figured out how to get the damn things on. I would talk to your ortho. If he/she says the pain is normal just hang in there. It al...

You are way, way overthinking this. Never had any extractions to get my braces, but I did have all my wisdom teeth pulled and my face didn't look any different.

Re: Why do they tell you not to eat nuts?

Thanks for all the replies. I've been eating nuts like Pistachios and Pumpkin Seeds. I wouldn't attempt Almonds as they are just too hard. As some have already said, they do get stuck in the wires so you just have to brush a little better and a Waterpik is a big help. I was completely staying away f...

Re: Bracket placement - opinions needed

My ortho put some buildups behind my front teeth to keep my uppers from contacting the braces on the bottom. As others have said, placement of the brackets is critical to getting a positive outcome.
