I've had three pop off -- swallowed one. It happens.

Re: Part of my PowerChain broke

Don't let it go on for too long. This happened to me. The chain was supposed to be closing up my gaps, which it was, and it broke right in the center. The chain pulled both ways and opened up a gap at the break.

Re: Sudden tooth sensitivity

Had the same problem right after I got my braces. Ibuprofen and Sensodyne got me through it and after a short time the sensitivity went away. Still have some pain when they make an adjustment but no more sensitivity.

Re: Wiggly wire

First, don't be afraid to call your ortho. They see this stuff all the time and are there to help you. I lived through a month of pain from a wire sticking out and when I finally went in for my appt. they scolded me for not coming in sooner. Second. Get some dental wax. You can find it at any grocer...

Braces off Tuesday. What should I expect?

I think I hope my braces are coming off Tuesday. I'm wondering what to expect not only at that appointment, but post braces -- retainers, any restrictions? Can I eat myself into a coma with all the foods I've missed? Any thoughts welcome. I'm also prepared to hear, "Maybe next month." I'll let you k...

Re: Mouth Guard with Braces?

I've been wearing a mouth-guard for years, but when I got braces my ortho said to forget it. Your teeth will move around so much that any kind of a "molded" or custom guard won't fit. I'm assuming, and we all know what that means, that when my braces come off I'll have a molded retainer that will ac...

Re: First Ortho Appointment

Your anxiety is perfectly normal. We've all been there, and based on the details in your first post getting braces now is a very good idea. I'm pushing 70, never got braces when I was a kid, and I'm very pleased with the results so far. My front teeth have some together and my bite is much improved....

Re: Wisdom tooth extraction for braces - right questions to ask BEFORE...

My first question would be, "Is this absolutely necessary?" If you don't feel comfortable with the answer don't be afraid to get a second opinion. I had all my wisdom teeth yanked out at once by an oral surgeon when I was a lot younger. I was asleep through the whole thing and the outcome was perfec...

We're all in this together and we've all had the same problems. Lots of great advice here. Just hang in there and things will settle down soon enough.

Re: Brushing Habits

I was a brushing fanatic when I first got my braces but now I brush when I can. Get yourself a water flosser, like a WaterPik. Even after brushing you won't believe what comes flying out of your mouth when you use a WaterPik.

Re: Coffee lover

I have ceramics on top and have had no problem with staining the past 14 months -- and I love coffee. That said, ligatures, which I don't have, will stain, as will power chains, which I do have. Nobody seems to notice the power chains changing color. Now, if your TEETH start to stain that's a differ...

Re: share your soft food meals

I'm a big fan of smoothies (you can put damn near anything in a blender). I also bought soft, whole wheat white bread for sandwiches and that helped me a lot.

Re: Does everyone have different size archwire because of there arch size?

Not sure what you mean by "arch." When the wire is placed on the brackets it pulls and pushes your teeth based on the placement of the brackets. The wire size is given based on how hard the ortho wants move a tooth; thick, square wires will move a tooth more aggressively than thin round wires. My la...

Re: Rubber bands and chains. Ahhhhhhhh! Any tips?

Thanks for the post. Yes, I eventually got used to them and this week my ortho took the bands off. Still have the power chains, however, and putting those on is still a pain.
