Re: BCBS and unrealistic criteria
I'm in NC. I've tried like crazy to figure out what they'll cover, but the plan brochure is really vague. And when I tried calling the insurance company they had no idea what I was asking -- they actually told me I don't need prior approval, which I know is wrong. The plan brochures rarely address ...

Re: BCBS and unrealistic criteria
LyraM45: Wow, that's great to hear. I too have BCBS FEP, and reading the plan brochure I got worried because it doesn't even talk about covering jaw surgery because of discrepancies, TMJ, etc. Do you happen to know if the plan varies by state? Any info you have about getting the approval from them ...

Re: BCBS and unrealistic criteria
I know it varies from state to state, but I had zero issues with BCBS federal employee program. I was measuring 9mm with discrepancies in every direction possible though. Like, my surgeon didn't even bother doing a pre auth for me until 2 weeks before surgery because they knew it was going to go st...

Re: January - March 2017 Surgery Buddies
Jabbed - how did your surgery go?? Are you feeling ok? I have a 9mm overbite and am set to have a BSSO in a few months once I've met with my surgeon again, so I'm interested to hear how things went

Re: Problems chewing in prep for surgery
I can't wait! The only complicating factor is that I'm also trying to get pregnant, and if I do I'll have to put the surgery off for at least an extra year. I'm worried my bite will be way off and I won't be able to eat normal food for a long time! Also just wanted to say I'm so glad this website is...

Problems chewing in prep for surgery
I've had Invisalign for a year and am meeting with my Ortho next week to discuss my progress. His previous estimate was I'll be ready for a BSSO in the summer or winter of this year. Over the past year, it's gotten much harder to chew and my bite is really off now. I can't chew leafy things or tough...

Anyone NOT get surgery?
So I've been braced (Invisalign actually) for about 6 weeks now. I've got a pretty serious overbite (9mm) and overjet (7mm), and the orthodontist and oral surgeon agree that to get the best result I need lower jaw surgery. I've also got have a class II malocclusion, so my top and bottom teeth don't ...

Re: How long did you stay home from school (or work)?
Thanks everyone for your helpful comments!! I feel more confident now that I will be able to fit my surgery into my school schedule, although I know it won't be easy. Now I just have to worry about hoping that my insurance agrees to cover it. My orthodontist says he's never had anyone not eventually...

Re: How often are you're checkups?
Yes, I believe that's normal. For my Invisalign, my first visit was after 4 weeks, but now I only go every 12 weeks. I change aligners every week.

How long did you stay home from school (or work)?
I'm wondering how long you all felt you needed to stay home from work or school after getting your surgery. I'm getting ready to go back to school, and I'm worried that they won't let me take off the time that I need for my surgery. I'll be in nursing school, so I will also have clinical rotations t...

Re: Before/after pics of class 2 jaw surgery
Hi Jaime, I just checked out your blog - your before and after photos look really great! It looks like you've had a huge transformation already from the time you started out. I have a question about your sliding genioplasty. My oral surgeon has recommended that I get a BSSO and SG (for my overbite/u...

Re: teeth clenching at night since braces
I have Invisalign and I've been noticing the same thing as well. Every morning I wake up with my teeth clenched together a headache. Before I got my aligners I would grind my teeth sometimes at night, but it actually seems like I'm clenching more now.

Re: Should I switch insurance companies?
I'm sorry about your experience, that sounds very frustrating! I don't have any specific knowledge about your insurance company, but I will tell you what my surgeon told me at my consult. My surgeon - who is highly experienced - said the insurance companies will pretty much always deny your claim at...

Re: Healthy Recipes
I have been working out more recently (in addition to getting Invisalign), and so although I can chew OK, I've been eating a lot of smoothies. Here is what I recommend for tasty and filling smoothies with lots of protein: -Get a good protein powder (I use the NOW foods whey protein one, which is not...
