Start of my journey

I am 3 weeks into my braces. Even though my initial plan was to have extractions, my orthodontist is trying the non-extraction approach first. I may need it down the line but hoping it won't come down to that. Attached is a photo of my teeth. Sorry for the black and white photo, but those are my tee...

Re: Look what can happen in 1 year!

Ok, that is encouraging. The reason I asked is I have crowded upper arch. Initially, the ortho said I will need extractions but revisited the plan and is trying the non-extraction approach first! My upper front incisors are huge (bigger than any of my other teeth, like Bugs Bunny, lol). I am hoping ...

First Month Appointment Coming Up - What to expect

I have In-Ovation self-ligating braces put on. Apart from some movement in the first week, there hasn't been much happening in my mouth. I have been put on monthly appointments (non-extraction case). My first monthly appointment is coming up so wondering what I could expect? Anyone had this experien...

Re: Look what can happen in 1 year!

I noticed that your bottom teeth were crowded to begin with. Did you get any extractions there?

Molars don't meet

I am 3 weeks into braces now, and my back molars do not meet. If I try to chew normally, my top lateral incisor hits the bottom bracket. Is this normal? How long will this last?

Re: Root resorbtion

I am 37 and that was my main concern before taking the plunge. My ortho assured me that it even though it is a possibility, he hasn't had a case yet in treating over 300 patients. I liked those odds!

Re: Those in late 30s or 40s - do you regret getting braces?

I am 37 and in 3 weeks into braces. I have always wanted to do them so decided to take a plunge. It's definitely a huge change to my lifestyle, as I am a bit of a foodie and not eating whatever I want is challenging. The only thing that keeps me going is the end result will be worth it and braces ar...

Re: Almost 6 months of Treatment

How much movement have you had so far? 6 months is a pretty long time. I heard movement occurs within the first month, so keen to know what happens in 6 months. I will approach my first month next Thursday. Yikes!

Re: Random braces thoughts: post them here!!

I have got coils attached to my braces and spinach just finds a way to wrap around them. It's fun trying to brush it off. I have to pick at it with toothpick, then floss, then brush, then use interproximal.. Spinach is part of my regular diet but hate it with the coils currently!

Re: Braces Newbie

I am on Day 21 myself. The first few days were hard. Molars don't mean to be able to chew properly. Workaround is my collection of soups. Fish is the best food to eat. Lentil soups are a must, as they contain the protein you need. I am now able to eat normal food (with careful chewing of course). Tr...

Re: How much time do you spend on braces-related tasks a day? (cooking specific food, cleaning, etc.)

I spend about 20 minutes a day on cleaning activities. I realise that I have become more obsessed with cleaning more than ever before. As for food/cooking activities - I have always been a pre-planner and experimented on a soup diet a few months for another reason. I have accumulated some good soup ...

Re: Aussie newbie

Hi, you sound like me in the first few days. I had a panic attack when I couldn't chew food, as my top teeth were hitting the bottom brackets. Being a food lover, this is a huge adjustment. Although, I must admit that due to all the things going on in my mouth, I feel very tired and have no trouble ...

New to Braces

Hi there. I am new to braces, just wanting to share my experiences here, and hopefully get in touch with someone who has gone through a similar experience themselves. About me: I am 37 years old. I have a Class II Division I, 5mm overjet, nearly 60% overbite. I have thin biotype, narrow upper arch (...
