Re: Has anyone's face shape gone back to normal after braces removed?

If your arch widens then it's possible your swallowing pattern improves as it's easier to get the tongue on the roof of the month. If there's not enough space for your tongue then you may use your buccinators to swallow i.e. you get chubby cheeks. When you swallow properly this muscle atrophies and ...

Re: Braces-Go-Round 2 To Fix Open Bite

Are you doing anything to resolve the tongue thrust issue? From what I've read orthodontic treatment is a waste of time unless you fix the tongue thrust issue. Think it's called myofacial therapy.

Re: Before & After

The bottom third of your face looks noticeably wider in the bottom picture, perhaps it's partly due to the camera angle. Was it a one piece Lefort, and did you have any impaction? I've not long been on the wait list for braces before eventual double jaw surgery on the NHS, so good to see some positi...

Re: Getting help for adult overjet in the UK

Max sounds like the first step might be seeing a psychiatrist or at the very least a trusted friend.

The NHS will only take you if you're going down the surgical route. An orthodontist will probably be a better bet at getting a referral than your general dentist.

Re: Typical NHS Waiting Times - Almost 2 Years And Counting...

Had the joint consult and have been put on the waiting list. Ortho said should be around 6-months before braces are fitted.

12/18 months after that before I may be ready for bimax jaw surgery

Re: Typical NHS Waiting Times - Almost 2 Years And Counting...

I've got my joint consult with ortho/jaw surgeon in a couple of weeks. Mid/South Warwickshire area. Took about 8 weeks between referral from orthodontist before I saw the orthodonist, it'll be 12-weeks between seeing NHS ortho and the seeing the surgeon and ortho together. The ortho was talking abou...

Re: My Underbite Journal

Probably going for ceramic on top, and metal brackets on bottom. Ortho suggested extraction both lower 4s to balance extractions that had been done top arch. Top arch will widen as crowding is reduced. Good long roots, and no gum issues. Did say it's not likely that he'll be able close the open bite...

Re: My Underbite Journal

Thanks cdmoses6. Had impressions, 360 X-ray and then a front on one where I bit down of something with two things in my ears! Jutting chin looks worse on the X-ray. A few profile, and smile photographs. Class 3. No overjet, described as edge-to-edge. Moderate crowding on the bottom, mild on the top....

Re: My Underbite Journal

First, free, consultation a more of a cosmetic dentist who decided pretty quickly that my bite was beyond his specialism so he didn't get to into the stage of exact measurements. Seeing a "specialist orthodontist" on Wednesday I'll update with details then, not even sure what the correct term for my...

Composite filling on front of tooth

I've got a composite white filling on the front of a second lower premolar. Is that going to limit the term of appliance that can be attached to the front of that tooth?
