Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Nozzelnut, what's the deal with the catheter? I read on a guy's blog that he pulled it out himself on day 2? Is that normal? Lol

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Yup, one of those things I should probably pick up. I think I saw someone recommend one in particular, a bigger size than the hospital gives you, but I forget what it was called.

Re: Optional SARPE. To get or not?

"Needed" to get to where? Needed to get your upper teeth to match up with the bottom ones? Needed to get to some standard width "norm"? What's the goal measurement?

Thanks for the congrats, Jaime :) Congrats to you too on your upcoming surg date!!! Obv you're super excited about it. Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Good luck and keep us posted KaylaChristine! My ortho apt is on Wednesday too :) I got a wicked canker sore from chomping down on the inside of my lip on Saturday so I'm not looking forward to the ortho probing around in there... But no big deal. Did my final sleep study also on Saturday, so that's ...

Re: Optional SARPE. To get or not?

Needed for what? To make your teeth match up? My teeth already match up, but my palette is narrow. I think I'm going to go without because of the potential for instability/additional complications.

Re: Gummy Smile/Long Face - Do I NEED Surgery?

Not at 23 years old. The only way for you to change your bone structure at this point is through surgery. Does it bother you THAT much? I know mine bothers me enough that I'm getting it :) Still, this is NOT something to be taken lightly. You'll have a completely different appearance afterwards and ...

Optional SARPE. To get or not?

Anyone know what the indications are for SARPE? I'm wondering if I should get SARPE or not. My doc told me I "could", but it's a long drawn out procedure compared to jumping right to the LeFort I/BSSO/Genio. She thinks my results would still be good without SARPE but I know my palette is narrow and ...

Re: Mandibular Advancement, insurance, post op pain etc

I'm getting it for sleep apnea, Sunshine! I was told they have to move everything forward about 10mm to get the best sleep apnea results, for what it's worth. That's coming from my surgeon, but she's not super familiar with sleep apnea cases and that's just according to the literature she's read.

Re: Did Insurance Help Pay for Your Surgery?

nvmart, I don't know how the individual plans address your jumping the gun on braces, but I would think the orthodontic treatment would be different if it's preparing for the surgery vs orthodontic treatment alone. Getting the orthodontics to prepare for a surgery might be risky if you don't know wh...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Hey everybody! My date is JUNE 10TH! I see that's the day before yours, Jaime! I'm getting Lefort I, BSSO, and sliding genio to treat sleep apnea/recessed chin. Top is coming forward ~10mm and up about 2mm. Bottom is coming forward to match (tho my final consult is in 2 weeks and at that point me an...

So long story short, my doc wanted May 1st to work out but a last-minute update on my sleep study pushed things until June 10th. As such, I'm now part of the JUNE 2015 surgery buddy group and I'll be posting on that thread :) Good luck peeps still scheduled for May!

Re: Consultation with a ortho or surgeon?

That'd be interesting if your doc says that about the TMJ disorder. I've been told multiple times that the outcome of orthognathic surgery is pretty unpredictable with respect to the TMJ and that a TMJ disorder is not an indicator for that surgery. Nor is the surgery covered by insurance for the pur...
