"Possible", sure. I highly doubt anyone does it, though. But that doesn't mean you should end your investigation here! If you find out otherwise, please let us know! I'm sure other people would be interested as well.

Re: I want a piece of information about orthognathic surgery

Those are questions you'd have to ask a specialist. To my knowledge, piezoelectric osteotomy is only being done in clinical research situations. Some university hospitals may be willing to do it, but I don't know which ones. Consider looking up the authors of some research papers on it and contactin...

Re: Gummy Smile/Long Face - Do I NEED Surgery?

RedLips, I found this in an old thread I happened to run across: "You clearly have a gummy smile. On that specific part surgery isn't necessarily the only option. It is possible to intrude the entire upper dentition" So apparently that's another option to address a gummy smile besides orthognathic s...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

KaylaChristine: Yeah, my genio is covered cuz the chin is attached to the muscles of the tongue and I'm getting the surgery for sleep apnea reasons. So supposedly the genio will help pull my tongue forward and open my airways more. It's hard for me to imagine insurance covering it when the bite is t...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Yeah, I have to do that too. After my "pre-surgical testing" at the hospital where they're going to do the surgery. This afternoon I meet with my surgeon again! We'll see what she's got to say. She wanted to do some more x-rays, some kind of 3D scan I think (CT?), etc etc. Not sure whether or not sh...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Yaaayyy chewing! :D I been thinking about Jaime's idea for a "Last Dinner". Steak might be it. Mmmm steeeaaaak.... I'll have to think of some Peanuthead Adventures too. The park within walking distance is pretty lame and I kinda feel like the air in my area is nasty and is probably loaded with harmf...

Re: Face flip flopped

If you have an infection (extremely common after this procedure) then a certain area of your face can swell up more than other areas. Relax. The final results can take several months to appear. Congrats on the fixed bite!!!

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

KaylaChristine: Ah, ok. Yeah, I've heard that some people don't even get elastics. Those people are incredibly lucky... I'm expecting elastics to clinch me closed for a few weeks too. Strangely, my insurance is covering my genio. It approved my LeFort I, BSSO, and genio the first time I appli...

Re: Face flip flopped

Relax, you're not looking at your final face yet. Swelling is uneven and you have to wait to see the results. How's your bite?? That's the issue, right?

Re: Anyone know any good surgeon in Connecticut?

Any OMFS is trained and capable of performing this surgery. This is their field. This is what they're trained (and insured) to do. If they weren't trained in how to perform the procedure, their malpractice insurer wouldn't cover them to perform the procedure at an affordable rate. If you ask your or...

Re: CW Rotation vs. CCW Rotation

I think you have it backwards. I think it's based on a profile looking to the viewer's right, so a CCW rotation would shorten the midface, etc etc. I THINK.

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Ah, ok, I see what he's saying Jaime. Yeah, he's probably saying they can just put elastics on the braces brackets as is, that you don't need any additional hooks. His "if anything" comment is a little questionable, since they WILL have to do something! Maybe call your surgeon and ask them to confir...
