Re: How long do you see surgeons for after surgery?

8 mos is fine. I saw my surgeon 2 years post-op, but that was because I had some follow-on concerns that I wanted to discuss with her.

Re: Hardware (plates, screws) removal post-op?

Just had half my hardware removed last Friday, so I’m 2 days post-op. It’s been a little over 3 years since my bimax. I got it removed because I could feel it inside. It felt like gauze under my skin or I had braces on or something, and I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life that way if I didn’t...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies

Sooooo I got the 3 plates and ~6 screws on the left side of my face removed on Friday. This was to treat a feeling like there was gauze stuck under my skin in those areas. It’s too early to tell if it worked, because I’m puffed up almost as bad as when I had my bimax, and the numbness is intense too...

Re: Gummy Smile or Jaw Surgery?

Just so you know, if it's merely to compensate for a gummy smile, your insurance will almost certainly deny coverage for jaw surgery, so it's likely to cost $25k+ out-of-pocket. That said, cosmetic issues are very personal. It's all about how badly YOU want to get rid of your gummy smile, not some s...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies

Congrats Nozzel!!!! 54 months of treatment  But now you're done!!!!! :rawk: Unfortunately I have a new surgery date: September 14th. After being unable to shake the feeling that something is present under my gums (I thought it was scar tissue, but my surgeon thinks it's either the plates them...

Re: Very happy with the results!

Bone grafts in lieu of cheek implants?! I didn't even know that was a thing! I thought they typically placed the implants over the muscle so a graft wouldn't work, but apparently I was incorrect! That's awesome! :D

Re: Will lower jaw surgery make my chin disappear?

A lot of folks who have an underbite and get their lower jaw pushed back are not happy with the cosmetic difference, even when it's well within aesthetic norms. That said, if you're having functional difficulties and this is the cure, perhaps having a frank conversation with your surgeon and startin...

Re: Help! Totally botched?

Your results look great! The 1-2mm that your midline is off is completely unnoticeable unless you're looking for it, and even then you have to stare for a minute to see it. It's hard to see how the surgery affected your look as a whole from those close-up images, however.

Re: Nerves and regaining feeling

I've noticed that I had regained much more feeling in the right side of my chin and lip, and my left side is still almost numb but has some light feeling. Left side of my face was much more swollen during the whole time. I'm now 7 weeks post op. Does this mean I won't regain feeling in my left side...

Re: ++Anthem insurance Colorado, surgeons dont accept, any advice?++

I guess I will keep looking to see if there are any in network. Do you know what surgeon you used? Anthem tells me I might be able to cross state lines to get the surgery done if they accept bcbs. Bcbs Dr. Tracey Rosenberg in Long Island, NY. She did a great job. That's a haul for you, though. How ...

Re: Surgeons in the UK?

You've been waiting 15 years. I wouldn't wait another 15 years for someone on here to comment. This surgery seems to be pretty much a crapshoot anyways, so IMO you should make appointments all over town until you find someone who convinces you that they're capable of fixing your situation. If you go...
