Re: Nerves and regaining feeling

I've noticed that I had regained much more feeling in the right side of my chin and lip, and my left side is still almost numb but has some light feeling. Left side of my face was much more swollen during the whole time. I'm now 7 weeks post op. Does this mean I won't regain feeling in my left side...

Re: ++Anthem insurance Colorado, surgeons dont accept, any advice?++

I guess I will keep looking to see if there are any in network. Do you know what surgeon you used? Anthem tells me I might be able to cross state lines to get the surgery done if they accept bcbs. Bcbs Dr. Tracey Rosenberg in Long Island, NY. She did a great job. That's a haul for you, though. How ...

Re: Surgeons in the UK?

You've been waiting 15 years. I wouldn't wait another 15 years for someone on here to comment. This surgery seems to be pretty much a crapshoot anyways, so IMO you should make appointments all over town until you find someone who convinces you that they're capable of fixing your situation. If you go...

Re: surgery tomorrow

   I LOST it leading up to my surgery. I was a total wreck the entire week leading up to mine. In fact, it was so bad that the day before I was just in a total daze. My mind couldn't handle the stress so apparently it just checked itself out. Next thing I knew, I was coming to in the ...

Re: Poll: If you had BSSO, time until CHIN felt NORMAL

Snapdresser - I have my splint on until tomorrow (day 31) so it is hard to say how wide I can open my mouth. Right now it seems like it would be about 1 1/2 fingers? I can't smile all the way yet either. I can still feel the stitches pulling, especially in the upper lip, right under my nose. I can ...

Re: ++Anthem insurance Colorado, surgeons dont accept, any advice?++

You need to go on the BCBS website and find an in-network surgeon. That's what I had to do. The first surgeon I went to wasn't in-network for any insurance policies at all, so I went on the BCBS website and found a less well-known one. When I saw the bills, I was glad that I had. The original cost w...

Re: Poll: If you had BSSO, time until CHIN felt NORMAL

This probably isn't what you want to hear, but many people never get 100% normal feeling back. Some folks have altered sensations (e.g. burning sensations or that creepy crawly feeling you referenced), some have a small area of numbness, some return to normal 100% (though based on what I've read on ...

Re: Arch Bar Removal - Hurt???

Having screws taken out of my jaws while conscious Wait, your archbars involved screws?! Mine were just wired around my teeth... Yes...mine were screwed into the bony area above (top arch) and below(bottom arch) my tooth roots on each arch. My jaw was wired shut after jaw fractures (bicycle acciden...

Re: Upper jaw surgery change in appearance?

I concur with what runrabbitrun said. Tell your surgeon EVERYTHING! I told mine exactly how I wanted mine to look and she planned the procedure accordingly. She didn’t care at all that there might be cosmetic aspects to it, she was going to apply for insurance coverage based on the functional issues...

Re: Arch Bar Removal - Hurt???

They basically yank the archbars out with pliers. I guess it hurt a bit to try to open for it, but the feeling of them yanking the wires out on the gums must have taken my mind off it. Some of them hurt more than others. They offered local anesthetic but the first one didn’t hurt too bad so I denied...

Re: Getting insurance coverage without medical need?

If you don’t have a medical need, then it’s considered “cosmetic” and is thus categorically excluded from insurance coverage by virtually every health insurance policy in the US. They can put in for coverage but unless they come up with an explanation for why it’s medically necessary for you, it wil...

Thanks faekat19!

This particular thread is from the surgery buddies back in June/July of 2015, 3 years ago  If there’s not one for June/July 2018 please feel free to create one! They are popular months for this surgery so I’d expect there are some other folks in the same boat :D
