Re: Sensitive tooth - how to treat?

Thanks! I got into the ortho office today - and my upper right band was removed. An x-ray was taken to make sure nothing was going on - (everything looked normal) but he asked me to refrain from using my elastics on that side for now - allowing for the inflammation to go down. I came home, flossed, ...

Sensitive tooth - how to treat?

Do I call my dentist and try to get in? I'm now finding that what used to be an occasional cold tooth, now has a dull ache unless I go ahead and take an ibuprofen. This spot is on the tooth in front of my banded upper right molar. Interestingly, this tooth has been cold (and sometimes hot) sensitive...

Re: Carriere, Lingual Arch, Ceramic Braces at 58

Thanks for the responses! I'm looking at my teeth daily and pleased with how they look. My bite is still wonky - but I am 8 months in - so I'm hoping by the time I'm at 1 year I will feel like the bite is matching better. Right now My bottom teeth feel too "wide" for my top teeth - so that although ...

Re: Carriere, Lingual Arch, Ceramic Braces at 58

Just an update - My ache is lessening for the elastics and within my jaw - but I have an increasingly sensitive tooth - the tooth upper right front of banded molar. It seems that this is the spot I chew on most easily, it impacts food in front of the band so that when I brush and water pick after ea...

Re: Carriere, Lingual Arch, Ceramic Braces at 58

Two things: I am having an almost constant "headache" in my jaw/ear on my right side. I can't help but believe this is caused from the elastics trying to level out my teeth. My teeth make noise. I notice it at night when I sorta wake up to turn a bit, I don't think I'm grinding my teeth but perhaps ...

Re: Carriere, Lingual Arch, Ceramic Braces at 58

Note to self: Its day 3 after new elastics pattern - and things are better. Although I'm still worried about teeth touching teeth in the front, the bite is definitely improving and the soreness isn't as bad. I can't quite wear both sides of elastics at night yet (somehow when falling asleep it feels...

Re: Why do Elastics have animals/animal names on the bags?

Funny thread. Very entertaining especially since I'm back in elastics. I've been back and forth between Sea Lion (Stellar!) and Tortoise - depending on what I'm doing. The goal is Tortoise because it seems to be smaller - but gosh they sound slow, don't they? And who wants to trust a sea lion to do ...

Re: Oldfart Orthodontic Diary

Super grateful for the details of your story and all the photos. They are helpful! Thank you! I go from the feeling that everything is going well - to the feeling that I'll never be out of braces. Some moment in the day I'm pleased with the results so far - but then I discover something that feels w...

Re: Oldfart Orthodontic Diary

Enjoying your story and have some questions: 1. Your gap. How long has it taken to close? My back molar doesn't seem to want to move. Yet when it does move, it seems to be coming down, not over to fill the gap. 2. Elastics. I'm wearing a box one side and a triangle on the other. However, the side wi...

Re: Carriere, Lingual Arch, Ceramic Braces at 58

Today I saw my orthodontist when my scheduled appointment is next week. My back molar had begun extruding and the front tooth was also extruding. Apparently, rather than the molar moving forward as it should, the elastics were causing the extruding. They changed my chain slightly and altered my elas...

Re: Elastics - have you ever put them on sideways?

That's exactly what I was thinking of. But the reason why it wasn't the right thing - and I didn't realize - I have a section in my mouth where the teeth are lower than they should be. And getting them taller is what he's after in addition to moving them. My new elastics pattern is a box on one side...

Re: Elastics - have you ever put them on sideways?

Just got back from the orthodontics. A fresh chain attached to the molar (the one we are trying to move forward) and a change in elastics pattern. To answer a question - no, I don't have an underbite - the goal of the elastics is to pull the back molar forward to fill in a gap. Thanks for your input!

Re: Elastics - have you ever put them on sideways?

Oh - I'm attaching the elastics to the molar we are trying to move. Its the last molar with a bracket on it that needs to move forward. However, instead of hooking to the molar and diagonally to the bottom canine, I've wondered about attaching it to the canine on the top - horizontally. If that make...

Elastics - have you ever put them on sideways?

I'm supposed to be wearing an elastic - one side only - pulling a molar from the back, top towards the front to fill in the gap from broken/pulled upper biscupid. The elastic hooks to the back of the molar and attaches to the lower canine. After wearing my elastics for 8-12 hours per day, the molar s...

Sneeze - Ouch and hmmm....

Anyone else hurt when sneezing? Anyone else sneeze and think you have pulled a tooth out of alignment? Anyone else sneeze when in elastics and worry about yanking too much pressure on the moving teeth? When I sneeze - a few teeth hurt/ache for a while afterwards. And sometimes I worry that they are ...
