Re: when did you realize you wanted to get your smile fixed?

I have had crooked teeth since my permanent teeth came in. My parents couldn't afford putting me in braces. I made a commitment to myself when I was a teen that once I was out of college and landed a stable job, I would make the investment for myself...and here I am!

Wow, that is very scary. I didn't know something so severe could come out of swallowing an elastic.

I hope you get better soon! Keep us updated!

Re: I HATE my Transpalatal Arch Space maintainer!!!!!!!

I had a transpalatal bar for 10 months. I just had it removed in my last appointment. It affected my speech for the first couple of days. I wasn't able to roll my Spanish rr's, and I my mouth would build up extra saliva. (I also stopped eating oranges because everything would get caught at the roof ...

Re: Does the ortho clean your teeth?

The ortho will "prep" the area before bonding, but it's not the same as a cleaning with a dental hygienist.
I had a cleaning a couple of days before getting braces, just for peace of mind.

Re: BeautifulDisaster - Story Revealed

Hi there, just read through your story. Your progress sounds great, I would love to be at that point already. You wrote that you are very prone to cavities. Its the same for me and therefore, my dentist tries to talk my out of that entire braces thing. He says my teeth are too weak already and so o...

I love your story! I can't wait to get debraced.

My confidence has already sky-rocketed, just by seeing my teeth straighten out.

Re: Waterpik with new braces

I used my Waterpik from Day 1. As metalliKa mentioned, the blast of water actually stimulates the bloodflow and soothes your gums. I was so sore the first 2 weeks that I cuoldn't brush my teeth with an electric toothbrush or floss without ending in blood & tears. The Waterpik was a life saver during...

Re: Transpalatal bar, TPA and maxillary expansion

I have a transpalatal bar. 20150306Month6-UppersComparison.jpg My ortho explained that it would keep my molars "anchored" in their place. It was important in my case because of how narrow my upper jaw was to begin with. Without it, "equal and opposite" forces would have moved my molars inward as the...
