Re: Reversing previous orthodontic treatment

Implants are the only option to replace extracted teeth which will retain your bone level. If there is no anchor in the bone, the bone recedes. Bridges and dentures do nothing to maintain bone level. Bone level is key to maintaining your appearance. What horror stories of implants have you heard? If...

Re: Broken Essix Retainer

To avoid this you would have to get your teeth scanned with the 3D scanner thing and have Invisalign retainers made. My ortho offered this to me but it's $500. I would get 5 sets of retainers and they would have my 3D scan on file forever, but... It's $500, and if I ever get a crown or other major c...

Re: Were you nervous to be debanded?

Yes, and it friggin hurt! I have gum recession and sensitive teeth. Grinding off the glue was so much worse than bracket removal (which hurt a few teeth but was over quickly). If you have sensitive teeth you'll understand-- cold air, grinding along gum line, cold water-- not good! I had them taken o...

Re: Stabbing ear pain?

How is your jaw feeling? I wanted to chime in and suggest you get evaluated for bruxism. Clenching/grinding wreaks havoc on your jaw, teeth and gums. It's basically impossible to "cure" but you can mitigate the damage (to your teeth and gums, at least) by getting a mouth guard. Getting braces is gre...

Re: Flute Failing because of Braces!!

Would a plastic cover for your braces help? I know I've seen them for sale online. It's like some kind of mouth guard for musicians. I played the flute in school but just got braces as an adult (and don't play the flute currently) so unfortunately I can't help with personal experience. But you might...

Re: My Damon Clear braces journey!

Your teeth look wonderful! I don't know how I missed your story, we had very similar front teeth (and that rotation seems to be rare!). Your teeth have moved so fast!! I wonder if having the extractions helped with that? My front teeth refused to rotate out until about six months in when I first got...

Re: Adults With metal braces - are you happy with your choice?

Congrats on your braces! I thought I would update this now that I have my braces off. I had all metal Damons except the top front 8 were clear Damons. During treatment both metal and clear were great, I was very happy with my setup. I only had one bracket pop off and that was a metal one that came o...

Re: Thinking about getting braces at 21

Only get braces if your life will be stable enough for them. I think the self consciousness is much easier to manage than the practical aspects of having braces. *Do you/will you have a stable job that allows you to live in one place? You wouldn't want to have to switch orthos mid-treatment if you h...

Re: Can braces make your teeth smaller?

I don't know without seeing (not like I'm an expert anyway! :) ) It's possible for some teeth to extrude or intrude quickly (extrude, more likely). One of my top teeth extruded very quickly-- too much, and stuck out ugly for months until they intruded it. It wasn't very noticeable to anyone else but...

Re: what do/did you hate the most at parts of your treatment?

I hate my retainers, they make my jaw hurt and mess up my bite. I would *almost* prefer braces. At least with braces the only pain I had was normal tooth-moving pain. It's possible some of this pain is from my crown, so I can't entirely condemn my retainers yet. They still suck, though. I'm probably...

Re: Can braces make your teeth smaller?

Is it possible they're intruding your teeth? Pushing them back into your gums and, in effect, making them smaller?

Re: Post-braces blues

Thanks! I know I should go to the dentist... And that's definitely what I would tell anyone else posting about this! My insurance is used up until next year, though, and I just dropped more than $1,000 on the crown after my tooth broke. I can't stomach spending more money (loan money, it's not even ...

Post-braces blues

Don't get me wrong, I never want braces again and don't miss them. I wasn't expecting to *still* have pain, though! The past 3 (almost 4) weeks have been all about jaw and tooth pain. I'm trying to figure out if my new crown (placed same day braces came off) is really covering a cracked or infected ...

Re: new bottom braces!

Ice water helped with my braces pain-- holding it in my mouth made the pain go away at least momentarily. Which is crazy because my teeth are normally cold sensitive, but I guess braces pain trumps sensitivity! Now my braces are off the sensitivity is back. But at least no more braces??

Re: How do you find an inexpensive orthodontist?

There's not much point asking on here, you really have to go to some consultations. I could tell you $1800 is the lowest I've seen (and it is) but that says nothing about your case. I payed more than $6000 and mine wasn't very complicated. Most I've seen are around $5-6,000, assuming surgery isn't n...
