Re: Almost 1 week post op BSSO only :)

It could be because you're not eating solid food much or due to the pain meds you were prescribed. Doctors generally recommend senna-s for opiate related constipation, but be aware that it can cause a decent amount of stomach cramping as it MAKES you go. I made sure to drink a ton of water my first ...

Re: "Do you really need jaw surgery though?"

So some of the things I've heard... From my (previous) primary care physician: "Jaw surgery? That's a major surgery just to be unhappy with how you look..." ....Needless to say, I left that practice. I mean, I can only chew on one side of my mouth and already have bone loss due to how my teeth fit t...

Re: Starting my journey

Congrats on making it to week 2! I know the liquid diet is hard, but hang in there! You'll be out of it soon!!! Funny story - I got in trouble for trying to eat ham too early almost immediately after my surgeon said that if I "cut things small enough, can eat just about whatever want".......and then...

Re: Did Insurance Help Pay for Your Surgery?

I've got BCBS (California, I think, though I live in Washington) and I was approved without a hassle. You've got to check the medical plan pretty carefully - from what I understand, a number of plans will not cover it no matter what. What I did was call my insurance after I found out that it would b...

Re: Almost 1 week post op BSSO only :)

Thank you!!!! I was almost back to normal looking...and then the swelling went back up on my right side. I felt just "off" on Monday and Tuesday (Tuesday was the swelling increase day, also a day I burst into tears for no reason, thereby scaring my boyfriend) and my boyfriend dragged me off to the d...

Re: May 2015 Surgery Buddies!!!

Thanks for the well wishes, guys! I think it worked cuz I'm healing pretty well so far :) My cheeks are still super puffy on the inside, but my face is slowly deflating back to a less peanut-y shape :) I hope everyone who had surgery is doing well and those of you who're coming up for it aren't too ...

Almost 1 week post op BSSO only :)

Hello all! I had my surgery first thing in the morning this past Monday (March 30th) and I'm pleased to say that I'm doing well! My head vaguely resembles the shape of a peanut due to swelling, but I'm able to open my mouth a full finger's width so I'm able to eat whatever doesn't need chewing that ...

Re: Starting my journey

Good luck with your surgery in March seems like time flew for you. I am also up for surgery but think I am ages away at least 12 months. These communities are great for preparing us for the unknown. Can't wait to hear how you go. I'll be having surgery a day before you at the same time! I'm nervous...

Re: May 2015 Surgery Buddies!!!

Hey deathorglory! You're lucky you're so close to surgery-day! I don't like having to wait  Not that I'm anxious to go under the knife, but the longer the wait till the surgery = the longer the wait for the final results  You must be super thrilled that you've gone this far at this poin...

Re: May 2015 Surgery Buddies!!!

I'm having surgery March 30th! I didn't see a March thread so I'm crashing this one. :) Underbite of about 10mm currently. Did my molds at my orthodontist at my last appointment, but my next appointment for molds with my surgeon is towards midMarch. Still waiting to hear about my PA for surgery (was...

Re: Nickel

I'm also allergic to nickel, being unable to wear cheap jewelry. When I told my orthodontist, she put one band on my furthest back molar and let that sit for about 2 weeks. She said that if I had any reaction at all to it to call her and they'd rush me in to remove it. I think they wanted to give it...

Re: What is your daily Smilie?

 because I don't have an adjustment till October 3rd (during which I'll get a new bottom wire  )

A little :( cuz one of my elastics is causing the tooth it's hooked on to be a tad sensitive. Otherwise, I'm all good. 6 months and counting...!!!

Dude. Ask the ortho. We're not licensed, so how could we possibly guess at that?
