Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

My surgery was scheduled for 7.30am and I had to be at the hospital by 5am. There was the checking in part (maybe 30min wait to go back?), then the strip out of your clothes and put on the robe part (30min) where the intake nurse verifies what meds you're on/when you last ate or drank/etc, then the ...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

I've found that the flat part of a large knife also work well as a pill crusher...I do what I do with garlic cloves. Pill under the knife, smack the knife, crushed pill! Not powdery crushed, but crushed nonetheless. :D My profile changed quite a bit, but from straight on, my jawline is almost back t...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004FKFFRE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00 <---These are the syringes that I bought. They're pretty darn big and may be hard to handle if you're trying to use them one handed. I never actually had to use them other than for pain medication (and I o...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

By "wobbly" I really just mean that my bite was slightly variable (which is why we wear elastics after surgery...to train our muscles where to put the jaw after surgery because they're not used to the new position). I was very aware that my jaw had just underwent surgery and that there was still a d...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Haha, "relations"... I abstained for about 3 weeks. It was long enough time that my jaw didn't feel too wobbly. The first week I was really tired and out of it. The second week my entire face was peeling and yet oily and I didn't feel attractive at all (also when the infection happened). Week 3 was ...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

My surgery was only 2 hours and my boyfriend was allowed to leave, probably because we have to stay overnight. Poor guy...He didn't go to bed until 4am (he works till midnight) and I woke him up at 4.30...he sat with me for presurgery stuff until I told him to go home and try to sleep. ...He fell as...

Re: Adjustment was horrible :(

Hahaha "growled" At my first round of braces, I accidentally closed my teeth on the technician's glove...

Thanks for the well wishes :) I don't go back until July, so at least I've got a while before I have to experience that kind of pain again...!

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

I bought a few button down pj sets to wear after surgery, but to be perfectly honest, I mostly just stole my boyfriend's old tshirts. He's already stretched out the neck hole (hence "old") so getting it over my swollen head even with the ice pack wasn't too bad. He did help me make sure the ice pack...

Re: Adjustment was horrible :(

Ugh...unfortunately after the battle with the molds and the top wire (less of a battle), my adjustment time had basically run overtime into their lunch hour. All the other technicians had left for lunch (possibly the orthodontist, too...I didn't see anyone else there when I left) so there really was...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Guys, DEFINITELY bring a button down shirt (oversized or not) to the hospital to wear home. Your face will be super swollen (at least mine was) and you'll likely have ice packs on your cheeks so getting that through a small over the head type shirt can be a little hairy. The hospitals usually have a...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

I was given a hospital gown to wear, and I wore that all night and in the morning until I was discharged. I get cold easily too and I brought a very warm set of PJ's in case I needed them, but I had enough blankets on my bed (and you can ask for more if needed and they're warm when you get them) and...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies

Truth be told, I made an overnight bag for myself (with pj's, a tiny toothbrush in case they cut my bands off early, my e reader, a few physical books, phone charger, extra syringes in case the hospital had a syringe backorder, napkins in case I drooled, etc) and I didn't even touch it. ...It kind o...

Re: Adjustment was horrible :(

The first time she worked on me, I took ibupfrofen 800mg before my appointment :( I really don't want to hurt the girl's feelings but dang...I'm not sure that I can take this another time...! At my last painful adjustment, I actually took some stronger medications prior to going in, so perhaps that'...

Re: Getting braces again.

From what I understand, headgear is something given to adolescents in order to try to curb or encourage skeletal growth. As you're in college already, headgear would likely not be part of your treatment as your skeleton is already fully grown, and no other growth will occur. ...unless you're secretl...

Adjustment was horrible :(

Oh my goodness! I'm not sure if it was that the girl working on my braces just didn't know what she was doing or if my teeth are just way more sensitive to the pain...! I had jaw surgery about 7.5 weeks ago, so this was my first real adjustment since the big day, but DANG! It always hurts me to get ...
