Thanks! I'm starting to get nervous about how my naked teeth will look, but I'm also planning what I'll eat when they are off! I'll definitely post some pics on Wednesday :)

Re: The Professor's Story of Braces at 40 (with pics)

I had an appointment at my ortho this morning to get impressions made for my lower permanent retainer. It was a quick appointment-the tech removed my lower wire and did the impression and then replaced my elastic tie and wire. I'm one of the lucky ones and am not bothered by the impression-making pr...

Re: The Professor's Story of Braces at 40 (with pics)

Hi, that's brilliant news, congratulations. Just when you think this is never going to end, they surprise you by announcing all is done and to come back next time for a de-bonding appointment. Your teeth are looking great and I'm pleased to hear your bite is good too. It sounds like you have a good...

Re: Feel too old for this

In two years and one week with braces only a handful of people have brought it up. Some of my closest friends never said a word about them. I think that people assumed that I was embarrassed about them at the beginning and then too much time passed for them to acknowledge the braces were there. I wo...

Re: Life Behind Brackets

Hang in there, it sounds like you will be done soon! My ortho got me all excited by mentioning debracing appointments back in January--it was hard to be patient for 2.5 more months, but I did it and you can too!

Re: The Professor's Story of Braces at 40 (with pics)

Thanks everyone! I know that I will never be recruited to model for toothpaste ads, but I'm really pleased with how much better my mouth looks and feels! Two years went by fast, but it also seemed to drag at times (especially at the beginning and end). I forgot to mention the retainer plan I got tod...

Re: The Professor's Story of Braces at 40 (with pics)

I had my 15th and last adjustment this morning!!! The tech removed my wires and the ortho came over and looked around in my mouth for a while. Then he had me bite on a piece of blue paper to check how my teeth were meeting. Everything looked good, so he said that we should schedule the debracing app...

Re: Has anyone ever had double power chains?

I'm kind of in the same boat...I had IPR done at my adjustment yesterday and the tech said "I don't know if you've ever had the string before, but you're getting it today. You'll definitely be feeling it later." She showed me "the string" and it kind of looked like a rice noodle that you would find...

Re: The Professor's Story of Braces at 40 (with pics)

Today is my 2-year braces anniversary! It is an anniversary that I hoped not to celebrate, but I'm pretty sure that I won't see a third anniversary with braces (or at least I hope not!) My bite feels really good, and my left jaw hasn't been clicky or sore for a couple of months, so I think things ar...

Re: Help/Advice

I was in the same position as you. After my ortho did the measurements, we decided to go with ipr instead of extracting one tooth. It was painless and easy and my teeth lined up nicely. Trust your ortho to know the best course of action :)

Re: Feel too old for this

It will be fine! I'm near the end of a two year sentence on braces and will hopefully get them off before my 42nd birthday which is at the end of May. You will be self-conscience at first, but you will get over it. The nice thing about having braces after 40 is that you've lived long enough to survi...

Re: The Professor's Story of Braces at 40 (with pics)

I think it's never too late to reply, as this topic really inspired me. I was amazed to see how huge the progress was having your braces on. Though I don't share the same positions of your teeth, I have this student who has the same as yours. One time I accidentally opened to her about her teeth (g...

Re: Getting braces in two weeks- very nervous

After years of being embarrassed by my crowded teeth and terrified of doing anything about it, I finally got my act together and got braces two months before my 40th birthday. It was hard to face going to work the first day after getting braced, but only two people commented--one asked me to be his ...

Re: Adult braces and professional life

I've had mine for 6 months and nobody has mentioned them in a negative way, my colleagues certainly asked about them and noticed when I first had them put on but it was all just curiosity and they were very positive. The only issues I have at work is with how many morning/afternoon tea breaks and l...
