Re: The Professor's Story of Braces at 40 (with pics)

Hi everyone, I had my 2 month retainer check today so I thought I'd write one more update. I'm still really happy with my new smile (now I can see the whole picture without noticing the minor imperfections). My only issues are that I have a food-catching gap between my 2 molars on the lower right si...

Re: So excited to get braces!

Sounds like you've had a rough time, but I'm glad things are looking up and your husband is recovering from his accident! Your teeth look great--I'm sure you'll be really happy with your final results

Your teeth look great! Welcome to the world of retainers and being able to eat without worrying about food being stuck everywhere! It feels great, doesn't it? :rawk:

Re: Good restaurants for braced peeps

I'm not sure where you are located in the US, but in my neck of the woods BBQ places are a big thing and very braces-friendly. Pulled pork, potato salad, baked potatoes, and baked beans are all pretty easy to eat with sore teeth and don't require much chewing... Good luck! Yes and mac n cheese! 22 ...

Re: I'm afraid my teeth are going to shift back into place

I have a permanent on my lowers but not on my uppers. When I picked up my upper retainer (Essix) 8 days later, it was really tight and hurt when I put it in and when I removed it. My teeth moved back into place over the next 5 or 6 days, and everything was fine after a week. The worst offender was m...

Re: nervous

I know how you feel about elastics--I also dreaded them and thought they looked horrible. The dreaded day finally arrived near the end of my treatment and I wore triangle elastics full time for the last 4 months of my braces journey. They were nowhere near as bad as I thought they would be. No cuts ...

Re: 3 week photos... and worries...

Yes, it will work itself out! My teeth were similar to yours, but I had two lower incisors sitting back behind the rest and one jutting forward (my lowers were a big mess!) I couldn't imagine how there would ever be room for those teeth, but after a few months (and a little IPR), I had a nice lower ...

Re: Getting Your Braces Off For An Occasion

I just got my braces off 3 weeks ago and it was not a pleasant experience. It hurt a lot when the ceramic brackets were removed and the glue removal process was also pretty painful (and I have a high pain threshold). It was worth it because my reward was a perfect smile, but I can't imagine having t...

Re: The Professor's Story of Braces at 40 (with pics)

Wanted to return and see how you, my cohort, made out.... Nice nice job! Your teeth look terrific! After 5 months of 20/7 with Hawley retainers I look forward to night only wear. Took me a good few months for my teeth and gums to strengthen and tighten up enough to eat apples and corn on the cob. C...

Re: Adult braces and professional life

I've had my braces off for 11 days now and none of my colleagues at work have noticed until I point it out to them (one of my students noticed and announced it to the class  ) In my mind, this proves that braces are REALLY no big deal. People notice when you get braces and are usually too poli...

Re: The Professor's Story of Braces at 40 (with pics)

I went to my orthodontist this morning to have final pictures and X-rays taken and to pick up my upper Essix retainer. The retainer is very tight and hurts a lot when I put it in and take it out (like I'm ripping my teeth out of my head!) It feels ok after it is in for a while--not too bulky and I'm...
