Re: SARPE Date!

Good luck!! This is exciting for me because I just had SARPE 6 months ago and haven't really found any other adults going through it right now. Almost all the SARPE blogs are old!

You're getting braces in 20 minutes! Good luck!!!

Don't worry about being 19 with braces...you are probably one of the younger people on these boards!

Do prepare for people to think you're much younger, though. I'm 28 and people keep thinking I'm 18-21 years old or so.

Re: Confess your orthodontic sins.

I'm a month into braces so I'm still more or less good, but I don't floss everyday. If I'm tired or it's really late, I don't bother.

Also, I'm eating Sour Patch Kids right now. It's 8:30am.

Re: In search of the best floss!

I have tight contacts between my teeth and so far, Oral-B Complete Satin floss has worked for me.

Re: Waiting to Get Braced

What is SARPE? Are they spacers they use when extractions would create too much space? Or is it something else completely? SARPE stands for surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion. A metal appliance (rapid palatal expander) is affixed to your upper teeth that has a little keyhole in it. Then a ...

Re: Which comes first?

Rinse - brush - floss - Waterpik - mouthwash

I think I'm opposite everyone else! I don't own a Waterpik yet but that's the order I do it when I'm at my boyfriend's (he owns one). At home, it's the same, just no Waterpik.

Re: What would you do?

Personally, I'd just go ahead and do it, but I'm also the one who had SARPE right before Christmas (thus missing out on about 6-7 dinners).

Saving money is also totally a bonus if that's a concern for you. Waiting sucks, but it's important not to go broke for straight teeth.

Re: Waiting to Get Braced

I went for consultations in November and got braced in May after what felt like forever! However, I had to get SARPE before braces.

Re: SARPE and braces and jaw surgery oh my!

Just got back from seeing my dental surgeon! He said everything looks great after my SARPE, which was 6 months ago today. I asked about my upper teeth still being tender and was told it's normal. My second surgery (upper + lower jaw surgery with genioplasty) is now tentatively set for June 11, 2015....

Re: How many teeth have you "waxed" at once?

I've had surprisingly little rubbing/chafing. I used a little bit of dental silicone the first few days, but that was mostly because my dentist had accidentally given me a canker sore a few days before getting braces. I also needed it along my lower front 4 one day, but that's about it. I feel like ...

Re: SARPE

I know, they act like it's as easy as getting your wisdom teeth out. In fact, when I expressed my reluctance to get any jaw surgery, my ortho said (and I quote!) "Have you talked to anyone who's had it done? Many say it's no different than getting your wisdom teeth out." That's the biggest load of b...

Re: SARPE

So I had the surgery December 19...I went to a restaurant with my family December 22, hung out on Christmas eve and day. These were manageable but I was tired. I also went to a New Year's Eve party and did fine. I play a lot of sports and am fairly active so I consider myself to be in pretty good sh...
