Re: SARPE Surgery
I'm always surprised to see people say it only took about a week to get used to the expander. For me, it was well over a month before I stopped paying attention to it when I was eating. After that, I would completely forget I had it in while I was eating.

Re: RPE & Saliva
Hopefully it wasn't me in the video. :) I put 2 videos up on YouTube after my surgery and I remember I was sucking back spit a lot in it. For me, that only lasted maybe a week or two? Your mouth and saliva levels will definitely adjust and you won't have excess spit forever. I don't think I had any ...

Re: Who knew these tiny blue spacers could hurt so much....
Spacers are the worst! I had to get them on to make room for the palatal expander. The first day was okay but they got worse and worse. When I went to get fitted for the metal spacers, they took them out briefly (glorious) and put even thicker ones in! It hurt so badly. When I finally got the RPE pu...

Re: Kale Chips - So Good But What a Mess on the Braces
Add me to the list of people who wish they could bite into things! My front 6 teeth have been very sensitive since I had SARPE. Sometimes I worry I'll never be able to bite into anything again. Since I got braced, the worst foods for getting stuck in my braces have been banana, brie cheese, and oatm...

Good to hear, metalmum! Those meal replacement shakes are a godsend when you can't chew.
I mostly had soups after my surgery and slowly made my way back to solid foods. If your son likes soups, I would recommend making or buying a few different types.

Re: Post-sarpe eating?
My guess is he will get used to swallowing with it. It is very weird at first since your tongue can't push the food to the back of your throat. I found I was constantly choking on liquids, but I had no problem swallowing solids. Maybe he needs to take smaller sips of liquid foods until he gets the h...

Re: Hi! and A general brace reaction Q?
It seems like braces are kind of like eye glasses. People may notice them, but it's not interesting enough to really comment on. I've had mine for almost 6 weeks now and no one ever mentions them. I work in a very small office so the first day, my coworkers asked to see them, but no one else has bro...

Re: Metal mouth starting at 9:00am tomorrow :(
By August you will be like 98% normal! I had a big potluck the first day I got mine in. Everybody I talked to said they didn't even notice my speech was different until I pointed it out. It only got better and better after that. I could always slightly tell but if you're anything like me, everyone w...

Re: SARPE Date!
I was just looking at your blog and that face caddy thing is so cool! I bookmarked it so I can buy it when my surgery date gets closer. That looks like a lifesaver. They gave me something at the hospital after SARPE but it kept leaking ice all over me.

I had never heard of it before this forum that's for sure, glad you're excited :) The thing I'm looking forward to is when the braces finally go on, it's been such a long time coming! I know exactly how you feel! As a SARPE patient who just got braces, let me just say one thing: cherish your bracel...

Re: Family members that put a "downer" on your treatment?!
Most people I've told have been supportive, but a few people have made remarks like, "Your teeth don't even look that bad!" or "Why are you going to all this trouble?!" I wish people would just keep those opinions to themselves.
