Re: How Long Off Work?

I just had an appointment with my dental surgeon, and they recommend 2 weeks off. However, I will likely take 3-4 as I figure it can't hurt to take more.

Re: Braces and low carb diet

Curry queen, I feel your pain, literally. I've been on a low carb diet since September, but the SARPE surgery and now braces have made it very difficult. Many of my old go-to snacks are now off-limits or impossible to chew (almonds, beef jerky, etc). I wouldn't say I've been successful at it because...

Re: Tips for brushing?

I had a similar problem I think. According to sirwired's description, mine was/is tartar buildup. It was only on the front few bottom teeth. I thought I was brushing good then a little after I got my braces put on, I was really looking closely and "AHH what's that!" The proxibrushes didn't work rea...

Re: My feet are getting cold

I definitely agree it's totally normal to get cold feet, and almost questionable if you don't! I knew I needed braces from the time I was 12 (I'm 28 now and just got them). I wanted braces really badly for the last 16 years!!!! but when I was sitting in the waiting room at the orthodontist, I sudden...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Wow Pavlidja, that's a long time to wait for the gap to close! You must have been happy the day you saw it was finally closed. Did you have braces on while you were turning the key? I didn't get braces until 5 months after surgery. I was shocked at how quickly the gap closed on its own. It took 8 we...

Re: My Progress So Far!

Thanks everyone!! As crazy as it sounds, I'm looking forward to getting power chains and elastics. My bite is so off and I have gaps aplenty.

My Progress So Far!

I've been wearing braces for 7 weeks as of today so I figured it was time for a progress post! I'm pretty ecstatic about my progress so far. Already my teeth look far better than I ever could have imagined, and it's only just begun. My apologies for the crappy quality of some of the photos. I've bee...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Thanks, Claireliz, that's very flattering! I will definitely be posting some photos of my teeth soon, I keep procrastinating. After 6 weeks in braces, my teeth already look so much better than I ever thought they could. Good luck with your surgery, I look forward to hearing about your journey as well.

Re: RPE & Saliva

Oh, that's great about the turkey baster!! I swear that was the most useful thing post-surgery. Glad to hear things are going okay with the expander. How's it been now that it's been a few days? You'll get quicker at eating and drinking! I remember my first meal with the expander felt so strange but...

Re: SARPE Surgery

Claireliz100, if your ortho is putting on braces after surgery, I imagine they will put the archwire in as well. Some people get the brackets with no archwire prior to surgery, but I've never heard of that post-surgery.

Re: RPE & Saliva

Good luck today! I know how you feel. I was more worried about the pain with eating and talking than the surgery itself. You don't really have to do anything for the surgery; just go to a hospital and lie there. I'll say this, the talking and eating will be tough but manageable. It will get easier, ...

I drink 2+ cups of black coffee a day. I'll pay to get my teeth whitened after braces because I am not giving up coffee!

Re: What mouthwash do you like to use?

I use Crest Pro-Health, the purple kind without alcohol. I like it and haven't noticed any staining. I plan to get my teeth whitened after the braces are off so staining isn't a huge concern anyway. My only complaint is that the aftertaste is so strong, it typically ruins my next meal, or at least p...

Re: Electric Toothbrush Gunge

This is hilarious because this has bugged me since I got my electric toothbrush! Sometimes I set it on the sink, sometimes on the charging base, and there is always gunk at the bottom the next time I use it. I started to rinse the entire toothbrush off thoroughly (just with water) after brushing. I ...
