Re: Is it supposed to hurt this much or is it just me? Got my braces on today.

I went back to work after getting mine on, and it was a bad idea. I was in so much pain that I was nauseated. All I could do was stare at my computer screen and try not to throw up. Trust me, day one is the worst! It'll get better very quickly!

Re: Is there ANY non-cosmetic reason to fix an overjet of upper teeth?

In my experience, talking has become easier now that I no longer have an overjet. It sounds like you don't have a severe overbite, but you'd be surprised the impact of even small movements. Also, I personally never noticed I had trouble biting into stuff until my overjet was fixed. Now I'm amazed ho...

Re: Teeth/retainer cleaning regimin

I don't think dentists and hygienists would agree flossing is obsolete, but you do you. Broadabroad, I have the same "setup" as what you will have; an Essix for the day and a Hawley at night. Before I was debanded, I bought a retainer bath on Amazon. I got this one: http://a.co/4b9e4ST Note that the...

Re: What retainers did you have? Do you like them?

I got my braces off in November 2016. I spent a total of years in braces (switched orthodontists because of insurance) and i have vivera. I noticed they felt looser. So i put in my original essix retainer, and it was extremely tight. I love my vivera, but am also looking for other opinions as well!...

Re: What retainers did you have? Do you like them?

Hi theawkwardone, I got my braces off last November too. I have both an Essix and a Hawley. Interesting that your Vivera feels loose. Were the moulds for both your retainers made at the same time? The mould for my Hawley was made right after debonding, but the Essix one was done when I went back two...

Re: Nerve Regeneration Timeline

No one can really tell you whether or not you're screwed. What I can tell you is that 6 months isn't a long time. It was more than a year after surgery that I stopped noticing any improvement, and sometimes I think it is still slooooowly getting better. Since you didn't completely lose sensation, my...

Re: How can I get my braces off faster?

Do not double up on rubber bands, you can actually cause irreversible damage to your teeth. The only thing you can really do is listen to your ortho's directions. Wear your rubber bands exactly as much as he/she tells you, don't skip wearing them during school or otherwise "take breaks" from them. B...

Re: How long is the soreness supposed to last when re-learning how to chew?

I had soreness for quite awhile and what you described sounds normal to me. It gradually got better for me, less often and less sore. I don't remember exactly when it stopped but I feel like it was around 1 year post-op. As long as you're not in severe pain or noticing other side effects after eatin...

Re: Any Elmex Gel equivalents in the US? High Fluoride content Toothpaste Recs?

As I prepare for braces, I have been researching products to use to better help with my dental health during my journey. One thing I learned about is Elmex Gel. It's a gel with a high fluoride content that helps protect against cavities and sensitivities and you brush with it once a week. However, ...

No one here can tell you whether a reversal would improve your issue. You need to talk to your surgeon.

Re: Is there anything I can do about opening my jaw and numbess?

Definitely look into it! :) There's another thread on the front page of the Oral Surgery forum right now about going to physio after jaw surgery. I went for a few months and it helped me be able to open my jaw bigger and also be less achy after chewing.

Yup, because they have a tendency to stain your teeth to a dingy brown colour. It's difficult to remove it at home, but it can be removed by a routine cleaning at the dentist.

Re: Is TMJ physio absolutely necessary post-op?

Thanks for clarifying jamie My ROM is limited, when I try to move side to side it seems like I only move a few millimeters. As for eating I can't chew with my back teeth and the maximum I can open my mouth (on good days) is two fingers turned sideways. How far into your recovery did you begin seein...
