Re: Post SARPE surgery-expander & palatal arch

Hi Sandra, I can't comment on the loose expander since I didn't experience that but that sounds like such a pain! I wonder why he couldn't get it to stay? Mine was a nightmare getting on because my teeth were so crowded, I felt like I didn't even need glue. My expander was left in for 5 months after...

Re: Ceramic braces concerns

Hi claribeary, congrats on making the decision to get braces! Like FlyByNight, I had only 6 ceramic brackets and the rest were metal. I thought it worked out nicely like that. The thing with the ligatures is that they will stain no matter what you eat or don't eat. Many people recommending getting t...

Re: Why is my palate always in incredible pain following Sarpe?

This does not sound normal at all, and you definitely need to speak to your surgeon. I had the surgery almost 3.5 years ago. I don't remember having any pain in my palate except maybe in the first couple days after surgery.

Re: Feeling lost on braces and jaw surgery in Toronto

If you get the surgery, you'll need to take at least two weeks off school or work, FYI. More if you work a labour intensive job. Just something to keep in mind. My orthodontist only works the one surgeon so I only got the one surgical consultation. I was comfortable only getting one consultation bec...

Re: Feeling lost on braces and jaw surgery in Toronto

Hey Jaime, Thanks for the reply and I loved reading your inspiring blog. Did you ever feel super conscious or experience any anxiety because of your teeth? I hate it when I'm doing something unrelated like sitting at my desk at work, or even being out with friends and just zoning out, thinking abou...

Re: Feeling lost on braces and jaw surgery in Toronto

Hey there whatidontlike! Sorry to hear you're having a rough time trying to figure out what to do. I had my braces done in a small city in southwestern Ontario (where I used to live). My braces were about $6200, which included the x-rays, all appointments, and one retainer. I had a class II bite and...

Re: Hole in my retainer!!

Are you grinding your teeth? Either way, you need to talk to your ortho about the retainer and let him/her decide if the retainer is still good. If it turns out you're grinding your teeth at night, you might be able to get a night guard.

No idea what happened but I didn't type that spam part. Whatever you typed triggered that censor. Glad you're not actually a spammer, though! Hey Broadabroad and Jamie, Question(s)- can you explain why you have both an Essix during the day and Hawley at night? Was this something your ortho typicall...

Re: Should I buy a recliner to sleep on?

Do Canadians use Mane and Tail? There's a horse shampoo that a lot of people use for themselves here in the US called Mane and Tail. Has a picture of a horse on the front. They sell it at Target. Never heard of it. That's kind of hilarious, though. Must be an American thing  I tried it a...

Re: Should I buy a recliner to sleep on?

A couple months ago I ordered a hair product and they sent me dog shampoo. I tried not to take it personally!  Do Canadians use Mane and Tail? Re: Should I buy a recliner to sleep on?

Thanks Jaime. I read your whole blog and it's been so helpful. I also watched your videos and just knowing what to expect takes away a lot of the fear. I ordered that wedge from amazon and they sent me the wrong one. It's the 7 inch one. So trying to decide whether to send it back or make it work b...

Re: Should I buy a recliner to sleep on?

A recliner is definitely comfortable after surgery, but I agree with the others that it's not necessary. I bought this wedge pillow and it worked really well. One side is steeper than the other. I used the steep side for sitting in bed, and the less steep side for sleeping. https://www.amazon.com/gp...

Re: I want them off!!

Love all these comments and I agree fully. Considering the fact people don't notice when you get them off, that should tell you everything. They might know logically you have them, but they're not really seeing them when they look at you.

Re: How are you cleaning your waterpik?

Splash of sodium hypochlorite bleach into the water reservoir and run it through a cycle. Also make sure you turn it upside and let it run after each use to get rid of all the water inside. I considered that as well but am not sure that bleach is compatible with the plastic parts, even in small amo...
