Re: advise needed about power chain

There might be some space that opens where the power chain is broken, but for the most part she'll be ok. After several weeks the powerchain will have lost most of it's stretch anyway... Is she traveling in a part of the world that has orthodontic care? If she is, she might be able to find a local o...

Re: Which way do I wear my headgear?

Just because it fits better as a U doesn't mean it goes that way. It's trying to move a lot of teeth and there might be a bit of pressure involved. Definitely call your ortho to confirm which way it's supposed to go. Way back when, mine was n not u.

Re: Sleep after extraction for braces? (i have sleep apnea)

Infection is a legitimate concern. Maintain your oral health as your Dr has Rx'd. Don't worry about shifting teeth; you're at the beginning of your treatment not at the end. If you already have sleep apnea; extraction retraction orthodontics will only make things worse; not better. Unless you're a s...

Re: Should I go for undoing extractions as soon as possible?

Any time you have breathing restrictions lying down; you're putting more stress on the other body systems. Obstructive sleep apnea and all the issues that come with it can be deadly. So there's really no mild sleep apnea!

If it's starting at 18 for you; it only gets worse; not better with age.

Re: Anyone regretting reverse extraction orthodontics?

If I had a different strategy of orthodontics growing up, I might not have ended up where I did as an adult. Obstructive sleep apnea, TMJD, nasal breathing problems, poor profile, recessed chin.... Extraction/retraction orthodontics probably didn't cause all of the issues; but they didn't help at al...

Re: i think i swallowed a bracket!

I haven't swallowed a bracket, but you should be fine. It'll give you an excuse to overindulge the next couple days; so it doesn't get stuck in the intestines of course! Plenty of elastics, some bracket cement, parts of a ceramic bracket; but not a whole one.

Re: How much help after double jaw surgery?

Sending them with their dad for the week is a good idea. I was able to take care of myself rather well; but I don't think I'd be able to take care of a family in the week following surgery. Days 3-4 are the worst and things start getting better after that. Week 2 you'll have most things figured out;...

Re: How much more did you have to pay for clear braces?

I paid an additional $300. Looking back; I'd just go all stainless and save my money. I've had a few ceramic brackets break and folks can still see your braces. Save your money.

Re: sinus infection

As long as it's just a normal sinus infection; it's not a big deal.

If it's presenting as a sinus infection but is actually from one of your plates, healing bones, or incision sites; that can be a bit more complicated, problematic, and require more treatment.

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies

Sounds positive for the most part! I've been contemplating having the upper plates removed. The screw heads/plates are feeling much more prominent at the corners of my nostrils. My congestion has come back to my regular amount. It was pretty much gone for the first several months on the year. My nos...

Re: Bite turbo and teeth grinding

The turbos are designed to protect your teeth from the brackets; not the other way around.

Use some extra caution when chewing but everything should be fine. The extra pressure from lowers helping the uppers should move teeth fairly quickly.

Re: Looking for insight on chewing progression

Eggs are a great place to start. Tons of protein and easy to chew.

Stick to softer foods with a high return on investment and take your time. You'll know when you over-do-it.

Re: Braces are to come off in a few weeks but...

The only thing I can pass on is don't get them off until you're happy. My ortho was ready to take them off about a year ago; but I wasn't even close. We're getting closer daily, but I'm not going to accept "close enough" now; after everything I've been through. Since then; widened my palate some and...

Re: Increased mucous since surgery

FWIW I've battled sinus issues for years. When your nose is making enough to blow it is so much better than not making enough. I suffered from a dry nose for a long time. Of course I treated it with nasal sprays and stuff, but it was never great; or free and clear. I'm not sure what happened, but my...
