Re: Top retainer broke

My top retainer broke today when I was taking it out, after 2 years out of braces. Luckily, I have a positioner which I will be using instead of getting a replacement retainer. Featheryy~ Mine had a crack in it for some time...I would ask them to make you another one, it doesn't sound like yours ar...

Re: Top retainer broke

Good to know you like and use the hawley better Jem. Thanks. :)

When cleaning my bottom retainer tonight i noticed it was cracked on the chewing surface. Idk what I'm doing wrong. :/ I can't afford to keep paying for replacements. I've only been out of braces for 2 months!

Re: My journey (expander, then braces)

Here's an update on retainer life: Last month a piece of my upper retainer broke off even I was taking it out early in the morning. It was the back piece on my right side. So I had to go in. Instead of just making me a new upper retainer, they cut the chipped portion off and sent me on my way. Well,...

Re: Top retainer broke

Thank you Jem. :)

I'm not sure if my ortho makes hawley retainers. :/ He seems to be an essix or permanent retainer person.

I'll have to ask and see.

I noticed you have both, do you wear one type more than the other?

Top retainer broke

So basically I got my braces off July 14th. I was given upper and lower essix retainers. For me it was extremely difficult to get these things off after even 2 weeks. Eventually I got used to it. Last month though when taking my top retainer out early in the morning, the back piece broke off on my r...

Re: My journey (expander, then braces)

After a couple weeks in retainers, I have to say, I am getting used to them. Retainer life > braces life x infinity. Yeah, they're annoying because right now I'm in then 24/7, but they're not horrible. I will admit, some days I can't get them in as soon as I should. I've been hanging out with...

Re: I'M FREE!!!

Thank you all. :) Gorgeous smile! Congrats! You seem thrilled! I have an appt for a deband in 3 weeks. I'm so nervous about the end result!!!!! Good luck, Lorianne. I was worried slightly about the end result too, but I realized I worried for absolutely nothing. Lol. You teeth will turn out amazing!...

Re: Cleaning retainers when you're sick

Thanks for the well wishes! :)

I'm feeling a little better today. I went out tonight and bought some retainer soaking stuff. I followed all the directions. Hopefully that'll keep the germs away!

Plus it'll be nice to use the extra packets when I want a really good clean. :)

Re: Cleaning retainers when you're sick

Thank you all so much for responding and for your advice. :) I actually think I may have been misdiagnosed as I have been on antibiotics for 48 hours and they haven't done anything at all. Plus I have some of the symptoms of a viral case of tonsillitis than a bacterial case of strep (huge white patc...

Cleaning retainers when you're sick

Soo I went to the doctors yesterday and found out I have strep throat. I'm currently wearing my retainers 24/7 (except when eating) since I just got my braces off. I was told by my doctor to toss any toothbrushes I'm using after 24 hours. That made me wonder though, do I have to clean my retainer di...

Re: Power chains, oh my!

Whenever my teeth were tight, I just switched floss brands. Some are way thinner than others, so they fit in very tight spaces. I guess it depends on the person or the preference. The OP said that she was having difficulty getting all the pieces out with the Waterpik so that's why I suggested that a...

Re: Power chains, oh my!

Yes, you can brush normally. They are not fragile at all. I never, ever broke them and I brush sometimes too hard (which is bad because its caused gum recession in some areas). I would not worry at all about them breaking. :) Make sure you floss with them in! Waterpiks are nice or whatever but they ...

Re: My journey (expander, then braces)

You were right about the nail file, parsleysage. Called the ortho office and they just said that it was "due to my gums being swollen," (no, there's more plastic over that tooth than the other ones but whatever, I'll go with that lol). And that I should use a nail file to file it down and i should d...
