Re: Braces to come off in 3 months, 2nd time in 2 years but not so sure

I'll ask about that but I don't have a tongue thrust issue. If I had, my ortho would have told me by now. But I'll ask. I already asked him about a positioner but he thinks a positioner won't do anything. Maybe I should insist on one anyway.

Re: Professionals with braces: thoughts or concerns?

To echo others here, I'm a lawyer in my second round of braces as an adult and no one cared before and no one cares now. I'm getting to the point where I don't even care anymore!

Re: Braces to come off in 3 months, 2nd time in 2 years but not so sure

Here's the thing: this isn't me insisting on removing them. He suggested it's time to come off in 3 months but then left it up to me "for piece of mind," but when I asked him the chances of relapse even if I wait, he said the relapse could still happen. So he doesn't seem to think waiting makes much...

Re: Possible to do Elastics with Hawleys?

I had partial braces put back on the back molars and wore elastics with the Hawley's but ultimately I ended up back in full braces so maybe I'm not the best person to ask my opinion about how effective that treatment was but my posterior open bite did close: the issue is keeping it closed...

Braces to come off in 3 months, 2nd time in 2 years but not so sure

Hi everyone, I was a jaw surgery patient who had braces removed in September 2014 but since that time, my posterior open bite has relapsed, in conjunction with having gum surgery and crowns, etc. So we put the braces back on exactly 6 months ago today, with an estimated treatment time of 12 months. ...

Re: On a scale 1-10 how much does jaw surgery compared to wisdom teeth removal

For me, jaw surgery was a 10 compared to wisdom tooth removal. I had pain despite numbness. I've had 15 surgeries at least in my lifetime and jaw surgery was definitely the most difficult recovery I've ever gone through.

Re: Sorry, Should have said February 2014 surgery buddies

Hi, Checking in here. Sorry to hear about your relapse, and sending good thoughts that the braces work. How long will you have them? I need up having a revision genio one year post op, and removed a screw that started to make its way through the bone. Still have numbness from that surgery almost on...

Re: Most obnoxious retainer ever seen.. aka Orthodontist Revenge

Wow! I am back in braces again due to my posterior open bite coming back less than a year after my braces were removed. Interested to learn more about this retainer. Did your ortho recommend a positioner at all? I have read about positioners also helping prevent relapse of a posterior open bite but ...

Re: Back in Braces again after removal and jaw surgery

Had my first adjustment today. After being told that only two of my teeth touch on the left side when I bite down, my ortho said that is actually easier to fix (it IS?), but still: I don't get how after just 2 months back in braces, my bite is already that much worse than when I started again. Now I...

Re: Reversal of Lefort I for Underbite ? CHIMP LOOKALIKE NOW

I had the same procedure done and also had the piggy nose. Most of my swelling didn't go away until at least month 3, and it took about 6 months for most of it to go away. Now my nose looks mostly like it did pre-op, although I think it looks a bit better now with a slight upturn. You have a long wa...

Re: Heartbroken

I got UHC to cover 50% after two appeals, when they finally acknowledged it was medically necessary. Just don't give up! Appeal, appeal, appeal! They'll do anything to get you to go away if you fight hard enough, since most people don't put up a fight after getting denied. I was told that as a matte...

Re: How long did everyone have braces before surgery

A little after 14 months pre-surgery and 7 more months post-surgery. I'm now back in braces again due to a bite relapse (posterior open bite), but the skeletal problem has been fixed even if that did relapse a bit.

Re: Back in Braces again after removal and jaw surgery

Congratulations! Best wishes for continued progress. Thank you! Can you believe I had another bracket come loose last week, next to a tooth that started to lift way too high up? My orthodontist is glad it happened because otherwise, that tooth would have moved more (he repositioned the bracket on t...

Re: Hawley retainer moving my molars?

This happened to me as well when I was given the traditional Hawley (although the gaps for me were not the molars but other teeth where those clasps hit and on the lower arch) so I insisted on a wraparound Hawley which quickly closed those gaps. I highly recommend you get in to see your ortho NOW: i...
