Re: Braces are off for good this time!

I had one of those as a teen the first time I had braces. Forgot all about that until I saw your picture!! I remember only wearing it at night also. Couldn't imagine wearing it during the day  So you feel my pain! Did you sleep with it in or just wear it at night? I don't see how anyone coul...

Re: Braces are off for good this time!

Just got my positioner and man oh man is this thing uncomfortable to wear. My bite is still holding 2 weeks after removal and ortho said to play it by ear as to when to wear this but he said just to wear it at night. I don't see how useful this thing is if worn while sleeping: it only works when you...

Re: Braces are off for good this time!

Thanks again, all! I have a feeling that I will have a much more successful result with the positioned. I'm so glad I insisted on having one: my ortho didn't seem that interested in giving me one but since I want to say I've done EVERYTHING to achieve a stable result, I pushed for it. Just glad he i...

Oh you and me both! I get my positioner on Thursday and that should help settle my bite: unfortunately retainers don't retain the bite, as they only prevent crooked teeth.

Braces are off for good this time!

Here's hoping three times a charm! Just have to wait for my positioner to come in: Hope my posterior open bite doesn't relapse while waiting for it. I'm in Hawley wraparound retainers again. This time it took 6 days to get my retainers and unlike the first time I got retainers (1st time I got them i...

Re: Hawley vs Essix Your preference

Prefer the Hawley: my ortho charges the same as for an Essix ($150 per retainer), is more durable, can close small gaps in teeth when the wire is adjusted, and provides more stability for jaw surgery patients, especially those who had upper arch expansion. Plus with Essix, it can prevent the teeth f...

Braces coming off again for 3rd time. Positioner question

On July 14th. This time I insisted my ortho give me a positioner and he is obliging. He is also going to put on a permanent retainer on the lower front 6 teeth on the day of removal instead of later so no worrying about the teeth moving while waiting for retainers. Anyone have experience with ones p...

Re: Braces put on and/or removed from crowns/veneers

I have 9 crowns and have had braces (for the third time, long story), for over 7 months. In the beginning, I had brackets popping off at every appointment so that's the biggest pain (the first time I had braces, had only 1 crown on my molar and not one bracket came off in 21 months, but this time, I...

Re: Braces to come off in 3 months, 2nd time in 2 years but not so sure

Thanks for your post. I saw another person indicating their open bite came back after 20 years, so I believe that there may not be much point to having these on any longer but I don't know. I have a lot of thinking to do. Some of the tissue that anchors your teeth has elastic fibers in it. These ela...

Re: Braces to come off in 3 months, 2nd time in 2 years but not so sure

I feel your pain. I put on an elastic on the right side again, the first time in around 8 weeks, and within hours it closed back up but now it feels like it clashes too much. This is why I stopped wearing them entirely. We are able to get the teeth touching vertically: it just doesn't want to stay o...
