Re: Dating with braces

Was dating someone when I got them on and now planning a wedding. Hasn't stopped us from doing ANYTHING we would have done without the braces (if you get my drift and that's in the back of your mind). I still get hit on every once in a while and the guy who makes my breakfast in our company cafeteri...

Re: When will I be able to eat normally?

With each month that goes by you will get braver and braver and it will be less sore - althought almost always sore for 24-48 hours following an adjustment. My best advice is to tough it out and start chewing as soon as you can after each adjustment. I've found the sooner I though it out the quicker...

Re: Cleaning with Power Chains

Waterpik for sure! And those little interproximal brushes. I found it to be the only combination that felt like I got it all with full top & bottom powerchains.

Re: Traveling and wire started poking - San Diego, then Tuls

I had great luck with nail clippers when I was away. If it's too short, fine wire cutters work too (yes, I have gotten them out of the basement tool box and sterilized them on a weekend once).

Re: 3 weeks in

One reason they don't like the ceramics on the bottom is the chance of cracking one of your top teeth if you smash them too much. My lowers are really visible which is unusual. Most of the time your bottom lip covers your bottom brackets. Mine are exposed and I do a lot of public speaking so I reall...

Plan B - Braces not fully baked but getting married?

Hi Everyone - I'm getting married September 20th. My braces were expected to be off with no challenges early August. As expected by me, my last adjustment caused a bit of a challenge that I now don't think is going to be solved in time. Does anyone have experience with either taking them off & finis...

Welcome to the cool kids club. You'll find great people and lots of support & help here. A ripe old 48 and braced 15 months so far. Couldn't be happier.

Re: Which comes first?

Add to Dan's list towel off my face because I opened my mouth too much with the Waterpik going and blasted myself in the eye AGAIN.

Re: What is SEATING?

I guess I'm left wondering why you didn't just ask your orthodontist while you were there. That said, call and leave a message and ask for the orthodontist to call you and talk you through it. It's your treatment and a reasonable expectation to be told what's going on.

Re: Rescheduling appointments (mini-rant)

Wow. That's actually horrible. I don't know how you deal with that. Finding out a couple of business days in advance of a week long trip is sort of unreasonable by your employer.

Re: Sad after my first consultation...

Definitely have 2-3 consultations before you get discouraged. I had 2 and I chose the one whose plan best fit my goals overall. The first was a great orthodontist but he really wanted to do jaw surgery. I felt like it was because he wanted absolute perfection because he's affiliated with a teaching ...

Re: First day with braces!

Welcome! I was 47 when I got mine. Biggest suggestion is to have open communication with your orthodontist and ask whatever questions you want. I see so many posts here with people who are afraid to just ask. I got in the habit of bringing a sticky note with my questions written down to appointments...

Re: Rescheduling appointments (mini-rant)

That is a great suggestion on scheduling 2 appointments. I've done that if I had a "suspicion" is was going to be asked to travel. I explained it to the office and told them I would prompty call to cancel the unnecessary appointment as soon as I knew. And then I made sure I did that and talked to th...
