Step one is almost done!
Went in for my second follow-up appointment with the Carriere distalizers. The bad news is that I won't go back for another 5+ weeks, but the good news is... when I do go back they'll take these things off my teeth! Woo-hoo!!! I'm a little bummed that I won't be out of the distalizers before my birt...

Re: BAD ABOUT WEARING ELASTICS!!
My ortho told me to try to wear mine (class II) while eating and to only take them out for brushing, but I'd check with your ortho about his/her recommendations. There seem to be different schools of thought on whether elastics should be worn while eating and I think some of it depends on what the e...

Re: Foodie with BRACESat 46...better late than never for my
Another foodie here! The past few weeks have been horrendously obnoxious. Eating just does not offer the same enjoyment as it usually does. I guess I didn't realize exactly how much chewy food I enjoyed... sigh. Keeping my fingers crossed that all this pain and headache will mean a foodie future tha...

Re: Wearing elastic rubber bands - I like it - Weird?
I sort of enjoyed the elastics the first couple weeks I had them (I'm not in braces, but in Carriere distalizers). After the first couple days I got to the point where I loved changing them and feeling that snug feeling again (I also sleep with a heavy comforter even in the summer and I love the lea...

Re: Can anyone give me tips on Invisalign vs traditional bra
If the ortho feels that you can achieve the desired results with either method, then I think it's really a matter of personal preference. I know the general consensus in this thread is that traditional braces are preferred over Invisalign. For a voice on the opposite side, I'm choosing the Invisalig...

Re: Elastic pain!!!
Apparently I was in the throes of the worst part... things seem to be improving in the pain department. Still have some, especially since I seem to keep crashing my teeth together in weird ways, but at least that means they're moving, right? So relieved to finally be adapting to this new phase of tr...

Elastic pain!!!
I'm not sure if anyone else here is in Carriere distalizers, though those with braces and elastics might be able to relate. I got the distalizers put on about a month ago and things were going relatively swimmingly... some soreness the first couple days and again two weeks later when I switched from...

Re: How do you choose an orthodontist?
Like Safetysquirrel, I was set on Invisalign, so I started my search on their website and found a provider near me with the highest classification Invisalign provided. Unlike Safetysquirrel, I will be proceeding with Invisalign, though I am starting with a fixed appliance and elastics, so I guess I'...

Re: Dos and Don'ts for Unbraced People Embracing Braced Peop
Love the responses here! I think we can all relate to the: "But I never noticed your teeth were [crooked, buck-teeth, out of line, whatever]." For one thing, it's a bunch of bull and for another, I'm not doing it for you. So ha! Honestly most people have been very supportive. Do say, "Oh, you'll be ...

Re: How Did You Decide Which Orthodontic Treatment Was For Y
Hm... well, I had been intrigued with the Invisalign thing since I'd first heard of it. I liked the idea of having "invisible" correction and being able to brush and floss normally, so that's what I pursued. My first consult was with a general dentist who felt that I was a very simple case, so almos...

Re: My ortho is better than your ortho...
Mine is probably cool if you're the age of 11: play castle, SPAMS, Disney channel on all the TVs. For me, I mostly end up feeling old. But my ortho is a cool guy (with two doctorates, two board certifications, and a teaching gig in the city). He and I can joke around and the people that work there a...

Re: Not sure whether to go a head with treatment
I think second thoughts are totally normal! Heck, I thought I was 100% decided and had no doubts, but the couple days before I had my distalizers & LLA cemented on I started having them and wondered if I was doing the right thing. I even had a nightmare about it the night before my appointment! The ...

Re: How often do you brush/floss/rinse in a day?
Brush: Three times a day (morning, after lunch, before bed) Floss: Once a day (before bed... unless I forget, then morning... but it takes so long now with the Carriere in that I am much better about doing it at night) Rinse: Only when I feel like I need to... I've been drinking more water with my m...

Re: My intro - Carriere distalizer and Invisalign
Thanks Chicken! Only 36 (or so) hours to go before the Carriere distalizers go on and I'm starting to get nervous for the first time in this process. The unknown is starting to freak me out! Ack! Part of me wants Thursday to hurry up and get here so we can get on with it and part of me wonders what ...
