Re: Anterior open bite, retreating 20 yrs later, intro and ?

Playing armchair ortho and reserve the right to be completely wrong. Still wonder why you would cut a hole in your Essix. They are substantially more fragile than the Hawley to begin with, and a hole would just put your tongue directly on your teeth. And make it even more fragile and likely to break...

Re: Anterior open bite, retreating 20 yrs later, intro and ?

Why are you going to cut a hole in an Essix? Most just cover the teeth and maybe a little bit of the gumline. Why not a Hawley with a tongue guard? The hole wont train your tongue while your sleeping where a lot of tongue thrust problems occur. While the guard will block it all the time. Just curiou...

Re: Standard Hawley vs Wrap Around Hawley

No, its brand new (as of last Dec) . I had molar cross bite issues, which means they have to make it strong in the back to keep the molars from sliding in and to maintain the width of the arch. So the best way to do that is to make it full palate acrylic. Also the other thing I had fixed was the clo...

Re: Orchid's journey (lingual top, bottom ceramics)

It's pretty much what I have. Mine is also pushing a front tooth back just a smidge. Although mine is really evil.

So what's your problem with it? Looks's cute. ;)

Re: Getting started with braces

Braces are Much more annoying :) Lots of things to poke your cheeks, lips, tongue. Try not to forget how you sound now without them, as talking can be difficult. Also the excessive drooling that will occur. Theres also wiggly teeth..... Food and not being able to go anywhere without a toothbrush is ...

Re: Question on Pain from Spacers

Everyone is completely different in regards to pain and soreness. A lot depends on how tight the teeth are. For me the biggest issue was not being able to floss around them.

Re: Palate Expander vs 4 Pre-molar extractions?

I've honestly never heard of an orthodontist not caring about the facial structure outcome. Unless it was just a dentist practicing orthodontics.

Re: tongue thrust or not?

If your tongue isn't pushing the teeth out then you may be safe. But you never know. I think a lot of orthos get a secret thrill by springing things on thier patients. :)

Re: Acid on teeth

One of the many reasons I switched to a Hawley retainer. My essix was a bacteria magnet.

You can always do color on the bottom only to see if you like it before adding it to the top. Blue/Purple were my favorites.

Re: Wwhat questions do YOU usually ask your ortho?

Email a list in a few days prior to your treatment. That way they have time to review them and it doesn't prevent them from working on other patients.

Re: Worried About Permanent Retainer; Permanent Retainer Questions

Did your ortho remind you that the permanent retainer really only protects the teeth from moving back and they don't do much to prevent them from moving forward?
