Re: Smilehope's story

I'll wait until my adjustment appointment next week to get that bracket stuck back on. The office said my orthodontist is away until the day of my appointment anyway. If it was hurting someone else could see me. It's not the loose bracket that's hurting, it's my upper incisors. That's good though, a...

Re: Smilehope's story

Bother, a bracket has come off a tooth - my lower left lateral incisor. It's sort of in place but moving up & down the wire. I'm worried the tooth will start moving back inwards. My next adjustment is on 17th, and I don't know if it can wait. I'll call the office in the morning & see what they say.

Re: Anyone get braces without spacers first?

Another with no bands - my molars have brackets on them. The very back ones are bracket-free. I thought from what I'd read that bands were only necessary if you have a filling which reaches the side of the tooth - there may be other reasons as well I guess.

Re: New here - have an appointment with an ortho on Oct. 18

Hi Ciara, I'm 7 months into a 18-24 month estimate. Time just whizzes by, I can't believe it was a year ago I started talking with my regular dentist about the possibility of orthodontics. I'm 43 (was 42 when I had them fitted), TMJ, overbite, crowding - sound familiar? You are not alone!! You will ...

Re: Anyone would know if this is possible in for braces?

Not an expert, but as I understand things it all depends on the shape of the archwire. Rectangular ones add the torque needed for tilting. I had my upper 1st molars pushed out but that was with an expanding bite plate...

Re: What is Orthodontic Wax???

Some people might not need it. I have needed it at various times for pokey ends of wires, covering hooks if they've made a hole in tongue or cheek, or smoothing off brackets when I play music (I play bassoon).

Re: Well, no turning back now....

I felt like I'd gone beyond the point of no return on extraction day too. I had to wait 4 weeks before my braces were fitted though, because of the bite plate I think. Good luck next week - let us know how you get on!

Re: What does Doc do?

Ortho does all my work. As with Jem, the assistant is just that - she passes stuff to the ortho, does the UV light trick, etc. Maybe that's more common in the UK. I like having the privacy to ask my daft questions - I think I'd feel inhibited if there was a row of other people there!

Re: Smilehope's story

Betsybug - don't we all do tongue olympics trying to get food out of our braces while eating? Jem - thanks - I think my lowers are more trouble because they're still moving forwards. Both the hooks, especially on the left at the moment, are rubbing. I have a feeling my upper incisors are slightly le...

Re: Impacted tooth movement

I would say a little bit, hard to say when the angle you take the picture can change a little. You've certainly had a lot of movement with that lateral incisor, which presumably has to happen before the impacted one comes down. Looking good!

Re: Smilehope's story

Doing ok after nearly 2 weeks with uppers fitted. The wires are still a problem - my cheek gets caught in the end of the upper wire on the right. I can't see any movement from the front but photos today show a start, with that right middle incisor edging forward a bit. On my lowers, the gap that was...

Re: Smilehope's story

Thanks, Jem. I think my ligatures are pearl rather than clear - ortho's choice, but I think they make my teeth look whiter/ shinier if anything, so I'm happy with them. From what I've read on here they might not be as bad at staining as clear ones. I hope so - I've had tons of coffee today but they ...
