Re: Braces at 44 (about 30 late)

Hi and welcome. I'm 43. Just keep going with the wax, for most people it gets easier. I still use it occasionally at 10 months in. Some people find your cheeks toughen up quicker if you don't use wax too much - maybe leave it off at night?

Re: Front tooth moving inward

I'm sure it'll be fine, people on this site have often had teeth move to places they weren't expecting, before reaching their final destination! Good luck & congratulations for getting braced.

Happy New Year to all fellow metal mouthers

Hope we all have better teeth, possibly even debraced, this time next year!

Re: Smilehope's story

No coloured powerchain, I'm not confident enough for that yet! In fact you can hardly see it. I still have my ligs (pearl) on as well. The powerchain is actually quite nice - it makes them the brackets and wires all feel smoother. I swear my extraction gaps are starting to close even though they don...

Re: Dunc's Dental Dialogue

Looking good, Dunc. Those front teeth will be un-overlapped in no time, you can see it getting better each time. I found it really odd when my overlap suddenly went - such a big change.

Re: Smilehope's story

Indeed I do now have a powerchain, as of yesterday. For anyone concerned that it's something to worry about - I don't feel much different from before. Same wires this time - chain on front 6 to close up gap which had appeared - I think they are already closer together than yesterday. Very happy with...

Diastema!!!

With my history of overcrowding, I never thought I would use the word diastema in a thread! I seem to have developed one since my last adjustment. It doesn't bother me in that I know it's a short-term thing, and I can see how it's happened - my overlapped front teeth had to be pulled apart as they a...

Re: Getting braces soon. Starting to worry.

"I'll be the only one with braces" That's why we hang out on this forum, to remind us that we're not! Seriously, although it's impossible to believe that you won't get funny comments, you will get hardly any if at all. The only people who have said anything to me (and I'm talking about just 2, in 7....

Re: Angel269's Story

Hi Angel Sorry to hear about all this hassle you've been having. My own Mum finds the whole thing vaguely amusing I think. She teased me a bit when I had the bite plate & was lisping ( I was expecting it though - tact isn't her strongest point) but now seems to have decided to avoid the subject. In ...

Re: Just got my braces put in. I have some questions.

First of all, congratulations on getting your braces. You should find the board really supportive. I don't know about different sorts of spaces - a gap is a gap in my book! Spikes - are these hooks for future elastics? Shove some wax on them in any case, your tongue should get used to them. You can ...

Thanks, oimysizex. I hope your extraction sites behave themselves. I had the same ones taken out 8 months ago - I can't believe it's been that long!

Re: Smilehope's story

Bit scary. Also good and exciting. After only 6 weeks with my uppers on I'm on a rectangular wire, 16/22 apparently. Ortho really pleased with progress. Just about un-overlapped now, well they weren't quite this morning but I think he gave them a bit of a tug to get the wire in. Yes it did hurt, but...

Re: Dunc's Dental Dialogue

Hi Duncan, your teeth are really like mine - I thought I was looking in a mirror (apart from the lip hair of course). Hope it's going ok - can you eat chips again yet?

Re: Smilehope's story

I think I'm going through what is technically known as the "looks worse before it gets better" phase. Although my front incisors overlap is down to about 1mm, the gap by the gum is looking really obvious now both sides of the right one, and my ligs are finally looking a bit on the yellow side, which...
