Re: Question for self-ligators

I did with the very first wire but after that I have always had stops so it hasn't been a problem. Perhaps after your first adjustment for the lower it will be a different case.

Re: First adjustment?

Sadly it's different for everyone so there is no way to say for sure. I didn't have much pain at all with getting the braces on, but my first adjustment hurt like hell. I hope that you have an easier time of it.

Re: is this true?

They would only get cold sores or fever blisters if they had already been exposed to that particular herpes virus early in life. The stress of an adjustment could cause them to pop up. I get sores in the corner of my mouth because of my mouth being open so long at an appointment, not because of cold...

Re: sharp wires totally sticking out and cutting me!

It's possible that the wire wasn't sticking out when you left the practice. Pokey wires are a sign of movement and sometimes it can take only a few hours for teeth to move enough that the wire starts sticking you. I had this happen after my last adjustment and had to go back two days later for it to...

Re: Sinus Pain

Yup. I've only had two adjustments so far but both times I've had lots sinus pain, especially on the first day. By the second day it's eased off and has settled into my teeth. I think the sinus pain is actually worse that when it's in my teeth. It's certainly more distracting and has a higher impact...

Re: New Waterpik Fun Times

Fun! I had to clean all of the mirrors and change my top the first few times I used mine. :-) They look so simple to use, but they're tricksy.

It's also really awesome that you and your daughter both have your braces at the same time. :-)

Re: Has anyone noticed an increase in plaque?

I felt the same but I was at the dentist today getting a fissure seal fixed and she assured me my teeth looked fine and there was no visible plaque buildup. There is some staining from all of the mouthwash I've been using but that should come off with a cleaning. The dental therapist at the orthodon...

Re: How did people react to your braces

I have ceramic uppers and metal lowers. At first the ceramics were not so obvious because of the positioning of my teeth but they are a bit more now that my teeth have moved. I also smile more. The metal lowers are, to my eyes, very visible especially now that they have brought some of my teeth forw...

Re: HOOKS STABBING MEEEEEEEEEEE

I'm sorry, but I don't understand why the wax doesn't help. I chewed two great big holes in my mouth the other week and have had wax on all the hooks (3 either side) pretty much non stop while I've been healing. With the wax on I can hardly even feel the sores and they're able to heal nicely.

Re: First Adjustment

My front teeth had a gap like that form and it closed pretty quickly after my second adjustment. I wasn't expecting my first adjustment to hurt so much either but yikes! I know how you feel. :-) The second one hurt just as much for the first 2 days but the pain faded much quicker. Hope you're feelin...

Re: What do you call this process. Possible malpractice

Not sure what you mean. Do you mean that they pulled the wire from side to side so they could cut more of it? If so, then they did that to me in my second week. Hurt like hell, but I got over it. T'was nothing compared to the pain I felt last week when the orthodontist examined, moved, bracketed and...

Good luck for your brace day! I quite like having the ceramic uppers. I think it makes them less noticable on me. Fingers crossed for no extractions.

Re: Tongue Contortionism

I know what you mean! If only I could get food out that way that has wrapped around a hook several times. I don't mind brushing in public bathrooms. Not had any problems. Most people just look over and then look away. Only had one rude person so far who just stared. I just raised and eyebrow and in ...

OH and I Love my waterpik but it gets messy for some reason, I am uncoordinated and I can never just turn it off without taking it out of my mouth. No pause button thingy? Mine has a pause button thingy. I am currently looking around for a good portable/travel water flosser. In the beginning I didn...

I think power chains would be a more likely option. IMHO.
