Re: Teeth grinding now (only in my sleep) because of my brac

Actually, it is a bit of a long story. With my history of grinding, I developed TMJ. Turns out the splint I wore for years to help prevent damage due to bruxism actually put my jaw a bit off and pushed back towards my ear. I ended up with ear pain and losing hearing. My TMJ dentist had me in a splin...

Re: Teeth grinding now (only in my sleep) because of my brac

Hi, I've only had my braces or 2 1/2 months. I've noticed that my bruxism (teeth grinding/clenching) has gotten worse since the braces went on. I know my subconscious is trying to find that "good" bite. My dentist assures me that as my teeth get better, my bruxism should as well. I've been working w...

Re: Anyone develop a tongue biting habit after being braced?

Hi Harriet, I can very much relate. I have had some major bruxing problems for years. For 14 months prior to getting braces I was wearing a daytime repositioning splint and a nighttime splint. The nighttime splint held my lower jaw forward and kept me from being able to bite down. After a couple mon...

Re: Prons and cons - which braces to choose

I got clear Damon braces a couple months ago. The clear Damon's are a bit larger than the metal ones. I've been very happy with them. I haven't seen any hint of staining and I don't anticipate that as a problem. My TMJ ortho specialist indicated that the clear Damon's were plenty strong for my needs...

Re: Jaw pain

I've had my braces for 9 weeks now. I'm in treatment for my TMJD. So far, the experience I've had with the braces themselves has been OK. I've had more problems with my TMJD though. My problems are worse at night when my jaw falls back towards my ear when I lay down. I end up with lots of pain from ...

Re: What did your ortho "give" you?

I got a box of super floss after I asked how to floss.

A couple weeks later I got some Gorilla elastics.

Kind of disappointing since I paid a fortune out of pocket for self-ligating braces.

I didn't even get the cleaning instruction guides. I just figured that out on my own.

Braces as treatment for TMJ?

Anyone out there have braces as part of treatment for TMJD? If so, how far along in treatment are you and how is it working for you? I've worn a repositioning splint for over a year and finally got my muscles to a point where they are "happy" when my bite is in a correct position. I started Phase II...

Re: Hook pushed into gum

I struggled for over a month when I first got elastics. I spent hours trying to get the elastics on thinking I just needed to learn how. Turns out the hook was laying up against my tooth. When they tried to adjust it, the bracket popped off so they just did the adjustment before putting it on. After...

Re: Self-ligating ceramics - what happens at adjustment?

I got my Damon clear braces on August 30, 2011. I've only had one "adjustment" so far. At my visit, they opened the 'doors' on the brackets, removed the wire, had me brush and floss, had the dentist take a look at my progress and bite, replaced the same wire and then closed the 'doors' on the bracke...

Braces and Bruxism

Hi all. I'm new to this board and to braces. I'm 41 and received upper Damon braces on August 30, 2011 as part of my Phase II TMJD treatment. I also wear a lower repositioning splint. I had a lot of pain during the first month, but am doing better now with the braces on. What I haven't been doing as...

Re: Braces at 41

Hi. I'm 41 and just got my braces on August 30, 2011. I have upper Damon clear right now with a splint on the bottom for the first 8 months until I get my lower braces.

Honestly, hardly but me anyone has noticed. It a way it is disappointing since it is such a major event in my life.
