Re: Scared after extraction for braces, sunken-in face

I'm really, really sorry you're going through such a hard time! During the first 4 months of having braces I lost almost 4 kilos dropping to just over 46 kilos. Everyone was asking me why I was losing so much weight. I couldn't eat and rather than snacking and washing my teeth all the time I was ski...

Re: Measuring an overjet?

I'e been thinking about this too! Lately many people are mentioning the size of their overbite and I'm curious to know the size of mine...but my next ortho's appointment is in 5 weeks time! So what I did yesterday was this - I took a piece of metal wire and bent it an one end. Then I placed it behin...

Re: Has anyone had both traditional AND self-ligating braces

I have ceramic SL brackets on my upper teeth. my orthodontist said that they are faster than the normal brackets because there is less friction between the archwire and a SL bracket, than between the archwire and the rubber ligature in a normal bracket. The SL brackets I have are active brackets - i...

Re: what are you trying to give up for braces

I never really had a sweet tooth, but during the past year I have been avoiding all sugary stuff including ice cream. My orthodontist totally prohibited soft drinks and other sugary drinks such as fruit juices as the sugar might seep beneath the brackets and cause decay leaving a brown mark when the...

Re: 44 year old --- Day 1 -- In-Ovation C with spacers....

Yes the first day with braces feels worse than being punched really hard in your mouth! I found the selfligating brackets much harder to get used to than the metal brackets.....but once they're on they're on ....... try some cold wine, or cold water or maybe some pain killers. I use catafast when th...

Re: How much do you think about your braces?

I first had a brace on my lower jaw - metal brackets and it was no big deal I got used to it really quickly except during eating ofcourse. Then I decided to get my overbite fixed too, so nine months later I got selfligating ceramic brackets on my upper teeth. During the first adjustment two brackets...

Re: Top teeth now straight...but I am left with a 5 mm overj

I had very mild overcrowding on my upper jaw and I had thought that all the orthodontist would have to do would be to turn two of my incisors a few mm. I have a class 1 malocclusion and I was quite surprised when the ortho said he wouldn't do a brace on my upper teeth unless I had a premolar on eith...

Re: A bit of love for the Metal Mouth Forum

Hi English girl! Lucky you, to be debraced next week! I agree with you this web site has made a lot of difference to me too! I got more answers by asking questions here or by reading other people's posts than from my orthodontist!
Good luck for next week!

Re: Again a bracket broke!

I put his reluctance to being asked questions to the fact he's used to working with kids. I try to be optimistic and hope for the best. Again working with kids I suspect he isn't too experienced with selfligating ceramic brackets. I believe it's a bit tricky to open the doors as sometimes they get s...

Re: What are your worries with braces?

I really feel anxious while I'm eating food which is a bit hard like pizza as I'm afraid I might break a bracket. I had three brackets breaking during two adjustment visits so I'm being extra careful with what I eat. Aesthetically my worries are that with my braces I look like Hannibal Lecter in Sil...

Again a bracket broke!

I had the second adjustment on my upper selfligating ceramic brackets and again a bracket broke! The two on my front teeth broke during my first adjustment! Well actually today the metal bracket holding the archwire in position broke when the orthodontist was closing it. I don't have molar bands on ...

Re: What is the first thing you will eat after braces?

I'm really dying to bite into an apple......and I miss liquers too...and I too am having problems with lipstick as it gets smeared onto my brackets so I'm just using transparent lip balm.

Re: Problems with self-ligating ceramic brackets

Thanks to all for answering! The orthodontist did warn me to be extremely careful with the self ligating ceramics, which I was but he never mentioned they might break during adjustments. I'm quite disappointed! This time he made metal ties around the normal ceramic brackets which are practically inv...

Problems with self-ligating ceramic brackets

I've had self-ligating ceramic brackets on my upper jaw for just over 6 weeks. Two days ago I had my first adjustment. When the ortho was opening them two broke! I was really shocked! So I've had the broken brackets removed - which was really painful - and the two broken brackets replaced by normal ...
