Good luck, bracedengineer!

Getting started is daunting, but watching your teeth start to line up is exciting!

Re: Full Metal Braces at 35

Thanks Throne and sparx01!

I'm committed at this point; I won't take them off until everything is perfect!

Bbyrd and EmilyTravels: thanks for trying to look at the photos. It has been very motivating to see the progress of my teeth in just a few months!

Re: Full Metal Braces at 35

And here's a comparison of 9 months in braces. Day 1 to 9 months.jpg My initial treatment estimate was 9 months. Obviously, there are still several areas that need work. Based on the last conversation with the ortho, it sounds like I'll be in braces for at least a year. Oh well. By this point, the b...

Re: Full Metal Braces at 35

No major changes happened at my last adjustment, so updating this page slipped my mind... This is 9 months into treatment. The gray ligs were boring last month, so I went with red and blue for the 4th of July (I'm in the US). This adjustment happened in late June. I'll have my 10th monthly adjustmen...

Re: Full Metal Braces at 35

I dug through my pictures and found some progress comparisons that made me really excited to see. Hopefully they'll provide some folks with motivation if anyone is feeling like not much is happening with their braces! Here's a comparison almost exactly 8 months apart, from the day I got braced to to...

Re: Full Metal Braces at 35

Wow! Time flies and I skipped a month with progress photos by mistake. This week marks my eighth month braced and seventh adjustment. Last month, there were no changes. I got cobalt ligatures and kept up with my rubber band. Big news this week! No more elastic (for the time being). The ortho says my...

Re: Day 1 - don't think I can do this!!

Hi Ruby, you can do it! I'm at almost 8 months now with metal braces and the blue bite blocks, so I can empathize. Probably 90% of the frustration and general suckiness of braces is concentrated in the first two weeks. Once I made it through that, I was used to them. By now, I really am not aware of...

Re: Reccommended type of braces? and Colour?

I think most people on here who've had braces for a while will tell you that eventually, you just get used to whichever type of braces you have. In the early days of treatment, some people prefer clear for the more discreet appearance. It is common on here to see someone say that if they had to get ...

Re: Bite plate!!! Holy cow..

Hi Steph30, I can empathize. When I got my braces, they gave me bite blocks on my molars that held my front teeth so far apart I had a noticeable lisp for about two weeks. I'm sure it was less frustrating than what you're going through, since I didn't have anything in the roof of my mouth to make me...

Re: Full Metal Braces at 35

More new wires this month! I'm 6 months in; this is my 5th monthly adjustment: 5Month.jpg No more round wires on top! The ortho moved me to a 17 x .025 wire for the top teeth to begin correcting the torque of the teeth. The bottom wire is still the .018 I got last month. I really felt pressure from ...

Re: Full Metal Braces at 35

Thanks BlondeCam! I had my official 4th monthly adjustment on Friday, so the braces have been on for nearly 5 months. For the first time since my second adjustment, something new happened! The orthodontist changed the lower wire to an .018. Now both wires are .018. I'm still wearing the elastic 24/7...

Re: Confess your orthodontic sins.

I've had metal braces for 4 months. They've been sturdy so far! No broken brackets yet, even though I've been eating tortilla chips, nuts, etc. I did bite the wrong way on a chip and pop the wire out of my molar band, though. Twice.
