Re: Ceramic on top and Metal on bottom or ALL METAL?

Just got back from a trip and the 20-something flight attendant had ceramic uppers that were small, barely visible, and very discrete. Had to take a second look to make sure she was wearing braces. I would assume that most of the passengers never realized she was. Also met another 20-something young...

Re: Question For You All

I believe that most orthos don't use permanent retainers. They take some time to apply and they have to be maintained as there is occasional breakage. Some people are not candidates for upper permanent retainers due to their bite, as their lower teeth would hit the retainer and they would not be abl...

Re: permanent retention or removable retention??

Depends on how much you care about keeping everything in place. I have fixed top and bottom plus Essex on top for 2 years now. Everything has stayed in place. You do need to make sure your bonded stays intact. If it breaks, you need to get fixed immediately.

Re: Being picked on for having crooked teeth

Some people are extremely insensitive, and even if you know they're idiots, it's hard to ignore or forget their crude comments. My theory is that they're very insecure, and the only way to make themselves feel better is to downgrade or insult others. I had ceramic braces for 19 months beginning at a...

I don't understand why more orthos don't use fixed retainers whenever possible to complement the removable ones.

Re: Do adults teeth fall out of alignment after braces?

Retainers are not uncomfortable. I have been brace free since 2010 and my teeth have not moved at all. I have fixed retainers top and bottom and also use Essix retainers. I am now 60 and quite happy to continue to use them! :) I totally agree with hj55. Why be unhappy every day? Permanent retainers...

Re: I thought the pain was over

As an adult I had braces for 22 months. So now when I take it off, my teeth stay together for about an hour, then slowly spread. Obviously I wear it 20 hours out of the day, because I want this to be over with. But once in awhile you need a glass of wine. That's why my ortho uses fixed retainers al...

Re: Musings on a year in braces

I also can relate to everything you posted. I can add a few of my own: 3. I don't ever want to do this again. I just do it about once every 50 years so it's not that big a deal. :D Actually, it used to take months to fit the bands around each tooth, solder the brackets on, and make space between ea...

Re: Damon Clear Q: Clear on top and bottom or not?

You have to have a conversation with your orthos regarding the flaring issue. The Damon system to attempt to avoid extractions, but at what result? It's all a matter of physics and mathematics. They can measure how much room you need and there is only so much expansion tht can be done, especially in...

Re: Damon Clear Q: Clear on top and bottom or not?

Hi AJP1, I had Clarity ceramics top and bottom. My ortho said no problem, but the other ortho I was considering also said he will not do ceramics on the lowers. Meanwhile, I had no problem, though I did have problems chewing on my back teeth for the first month to six weeks. Whether it will be a pro...

Re: Extractions VS Slight Flaring

I have definite feelings about this. For the record, I had 4 premolars extracted as a teenager when I had my braces. Had braces again almost 50 years later. Happy with the results both times. No sunken face. I remember one girl during my high school years who really had that sunken look and obviousl...

Re: Regrets and cavities

[ And I'm also concerned about getting fillings because I was planning on whitening my teeth when treatment was over as they're staining as a faster rate than normal and I hear it's not recommended to whiten your teeth if you have tooth colored fillings. Some of my teeth are almost solid yellow. Thi...

Re: Bonded Retainer vs. Removable

The permanent bonded will keep your teeth in place! It's extra work for the ortho, so evidently many don't do them. It's extra work for the patient as flossing is more difficult. I have them upper and lower and they are no problem for me. Many orthos will have still have you wear an upper and maybe ...
