I've had braces for almost 16 months and need wax once in a while. In fact I had to put some on today because my bottom front brackets are giving me a little water blister thing that's sore. Who knows why today? You just never know when things will start irritating your mouth.

I had weird staining like that during my first 2 months. My first cleaning after 2 months in braces was like night and day! Since then it's every 3 months back to get another cleaning and I haven't had those crazy dark stains like the first time.
