Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

Neens, I am so glad you are feeling well enough to post on here. Sounds like you did not have adequate pain medications, so I can only imagine your suffering! How long were you in the hospital? I agree on the humidifier. I keep one running 24/7 in my bedroom, and use a saline nasal spray as well. So...

Re: Did you have an easier time of talking after the surgery

I think we all develop adaptive behaviors that help us cope with the dysfunction in out jaws. In many cases, we don't even realize it's an adaptive behavior, it is just "how we are". For orthognathic surgery patients, our braces tend to make things worse before surgery, so right now you are at the p...

Re: New in the forum, wanting advice about orthognathic surg

There is an active thread on Dr. Bloomquist, a few lines below your subject. I believe he is one of the affordable, out-of-town doctors if you are paying privately. If I'd had to pay out-of-pocket, I would have tried him first.

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

Looking good, bracefaced!!! You swelling and bruising isn't bad at all, compared to mine. It will be very gratifying to see new smiles on everyone when all of this is done!

romancommander: You are looking great! Very little swelling that I can see! You are going to love flashing your great, big, non-gummy smile in a week or two! We definitely need a pic of that! I'm very happy for you! Sams: my hubby is having sausages for dinner, too, and boy, they smell so good!! So ...

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

Hello all. Just returned from my first post-op appointment, and no changes here. Just as I suspected. I will be in tight bands for 5 more weeks. The only freedom I will get is if the bands lose some elasticity, but that won't be enough to make much of a difference. I guess it could help my speech a ...

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

Wow bracefaced! Two little rubber bands! That is wonderful! Did they actually clean you teeth? How did they do that? I'm not hoping for less bands. My OS pretty much said as much before surgery. I would like for it to happen just so I could get a better idea how my teeth look. Were you able to tell ...

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

Sounds like everyone had a pretty good morning. I go for my first post-op visit tomorrow at 11. My swelling is much better, but my bruising takes the prize for any I've seen on others' blogs. My chest and neck are purple and Shrek green. I have one purple spot under my left eye, and one 6" long vert...

Re: Would braces help a 12mm overjet - saw 3 ortho & am conf

I would suggest doing a lot of research on the internet to arm yourself with as much information as possible. Here is a video from Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/MolenOrthodontics#p/c/0/PoVeneli3jI This orthodontic group has many, many videos that will help you locate your specific problem and...

Re: Did you have a turbinectomy?

I did have a turbinectomy with my double jaw surgery. My OS says with impactions, that the turbinates end up in the wrong position and interfere with the new placement of things. I didn't have any excess bleeding because of it. It apparently is rather routine, as there was no consent to sign for the...

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

luke: are you able to drink from a paper cup yet? I have found those the easiest because they can be bent a little. I can hold my lips closed across the bottom and top of the cup and drink a fair amount that way. Meds go down quicker, and so does milk with instant breakfast. Regarding instant breakf...

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

luke: So sorry you are going through this. If they have to put you to sleep, it would only be a few minutes under a simple sedation through an IV, just long enough to get the bands back on to prevent discomfort and difficulty for you and the team. Sounds like the bands were all old or defective. Goo...

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

bracefaced: you probably just need another patch, but I really recommend compazine suppositories. They are "old school" but the one thing that completely stopped my nausea-period. No side effects like with scopolomine. luke: glad you are getting that taken care of tomorrow! Hope you get your nose ta...

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

I'm rinsing with warm salt water after eating/drinking and before bed. (8-10 x/day) Also brushing teeth with the baby toothbrush and some Tom's toothpaste (just a little). (4-5 x/day) The nurse at the OS office says they like to see the brackets shining clean! It's not too bad, the stitches are way ...

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

That antibiotic must be the same horrible one I have!!! It is just awful! Mine is cephalexin--boy does it stink! The only good thing is it lasts 6 days, and now that I breathe better, I can swallow it faster and chase it with chocolate instant breakfast. My pain med doesn't taste as bad, or smell as...
