Re: How do I get the plaque behind my teeth off?

Ugh! I know just how you feel! The first thing I was able to fit in my mouth was a disposable tooth cleaning tool similar to the Colgate Wisp. Check out the drug stores and see what they have along those lines. Also, if you mix a little baking soda with your toothpaste you get a little more abrasive...

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

I am happy to report that my OS removed the front elastics so I can now use a baby spoon to shovel in non-chew food! Refried rice and beans from my favorite Mexican restaurant was SO tasty...and the margarita wasn't too bad either! I still have stitches in my upper jaw that haven't dissolved. They a...

Re: Just had Orthognathic Surgery 1 week ago.

My stitches were designed to dissolve with the help of salt water rinses. Even though I was pretty diligent, I never was able to manage the 8-10 times a day that was recommended. I am now 1 month post-op and still have my upper stitches. After seeing my OS and learning that the salt water is key, I'...

I didn't mention this in my reply, but as you age, you will be glad you have a bit more definition to your jawline.

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

Congratulations, Sams! :jump: That is definitely something to celebrate! I have my 4 week appointment tomorrow. I am hoping that my OS will decrease the number of elastics holding my jaws closed. I now have 10, and the ones across the front are very annoying. I'm going to visit my daughter and new g...

Re: Any adults in their 40's on here?

My wisdom teeth were taken out years ago after my first round of braces as a teen. In this case, impaction, means moved up.

Re: Any adults in their 40's on here?

I am 59, and am now 26 days post-op from double jaw surgery. I had an upper impaction and advancement, and advancement of lower jaw. I feel like my recovery has been right on par with those in their 30's. I had more bruising, related to the age factor, but I expected that. I am quite pleased with my...

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

Day 24 here. I'm doing well overall, I think. I still have quite a bit of tightness and swelling in my upper lip and lower cheeks. Actually, I have a little bit of a monkey face right now. :? My chin gets achy and tight in the evening, so I use moist heat to help with that. I'm still having to medic...

Re: Oral Thrush?

You will need to see your doctor so he can diagnose the problem. If you do have thrush, you will need to take medication to clear it up--it is usually a swish and swallow medication. Sorry to hear you are having this issue. You should probably try to see your doctor as soon as you can.

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

trc, try 7-up. I read on another site that 7-up is great for clearing out that gunky feeling. I don't know of any way to clean the back of your tongue if you are wired/banded shut. Once you increase your fluid intake your tongue and back of your mouth should feel cleaner.

Re: Help - can't get a hold of surgeon's office

Even people who are completely banded shut can vomit right through the bands. With only two you shouldn't have a problem. Sorry you feel so nauseated.

Re: How am I supposed to swish this mouthwash around?

Learning to drink and swish is definitely a messy process. Just get the mouthwash in there and tip your head around, and if you can, just do a puffer-fish kind of motion with your cheeks. You will be swishing like a pro in no time. In my opinion, all the directions we are given should be followed wi...

Thanks for the suggestion, bracedfaced. I will check it out. I wonder just how long we will be wanting to use heat? Do you think it helps reduce swelling, or does it just make your face feel better?

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

I think I know what you are describing, Luke. I feel constant pressure, tightness, tension, in my teeth, jaws, chin. My chin is the part that has a throbby/pulsing sensation. I feel the most pressure-type discomfort in my upper 6 front teeth--feels like a tight ortho adjustment. My chin area is espe...
